  1. Let your fingers do the walking! There's a WEALTH of information in SRC's past.... This should help you... click here
  2. YUp.... when RTN happens (and it can and will without warning and without apparent reasons)... the only thing you can do is to frag off what's still healthy and discard the affected parts).
  3. Tanzy, the Volkswagon SUV is very chio!! Did you check it out yet?
  4. Selling off all your LPS? Going full SPS?
  5. You should see the Montipora-eating nudibranches doing their job!!! THe pain!! The anger!!! The frustration!!
  6. Flowrate is just that... the amount of water that flows out of the pump. You just need to adjust for head pressure loss due to the height and number of turns in piping that causes resistance. Returns turnover is for tank to sump and in-tank water turnover is water circulation inside the main tank. Usually one has to take into account the water turnover into the sump from the main tank as a slow return could mean that your sump filtration system, mechanical or biological could not be utilized to the max. Eg. a Reef Maniac beckett skimmer could be effectively processing 5000l per hour of water in a small comparfment that is receiving water only at 1500l per hour! Well it could mean super cleaned water at a slower rate, you won't enjoy the maximum cleaning turnover as Becketts process a lot of water and a lot faster compared to other types of skimmers. Main returns turnover rate is important as skimmers work a lot better when the water is dirty. No point having a clean sump and a dirty tank.
  7. Actually, the best way to use carbon is to use a small quantity and change that out every week.
  8. Wishing you guys a happy birthday!!! What a coincidence!
  9. Its possible for a tank to not have enough algae for the lawnmower blenny to graze on. They rarely eat food off the water column like most other fishes do. As for the dragonets... as long as there is ample liverock to support a large enough pod population... they should find enough food to survive. That is why they are not recommended for new tanks. AT
  10. The 300D!!? WoW!!! Good camera!!! How much did the 10Bar housing cost for the Rebel?
  11. Hmmm, rubber gaskets tend to leak that is why all skimmers use O-rings.
  12. Some photos are a little overexposed though. What camera and settings do you use? Any kind of strobe? No diffuser used?
  13. I need to take lessons from you.... You do have a good eye for subject composition!!! MORE!!!
  14. Excellent photo composition!!! WOW!! MORE!! MORE!!!
  15. Just a word of caution though. Remove them immediately should they pass away.
  16. Nice...! Is that rubber gaskets that I see?
  17. Probably went into shock upon packing. Who did the packing? Did you take water from another source or did you take water from the same tank?
  18. Planted tank??? That's even worse!! The OIL on the surface of planted tanks is even thicker than marine tanks!!! I use to drop tissue paper flat on the surface just to extract the oil!!
  19. Marine tanks benefit a lot from surface skimming as that will improve the oxygen diffusion, not to mention removal of the oils that build up through feeding, coral slime, foam or even insects that land on the water surface. I don't know how you are going to skim the surface without an overflow coz your water intake is similar to those reefers who use canisters without the benefit of a extra surface skimmer attachment. I think the only way you can overcome such problems is to 'churn' the water surface with a powerhead such that it is never 'still'.
  20. Nice change! The joy of SPS... you'll never know what you're going to get tomorrow!
  21. Hmmm... do you feel you lack the benefit of surface skimming with a mid-level water intake?
