  1. I think most saltwater invertebrates cannot tolerate freshwater soaking... depending on body structure, they will explode... the eggs won't be hurt?
  2. Like to ask if your bulb has a "DL" on the glass envelope? I still like my 6500k, inspite of the ugly yellow colour! Reason? The output of light in the photosynthetic range of the Iwasaki lamp is about 50 percent higher than the output of the 10,000 K Aqualine Buschke lamp, 75 percent higher than that of the 20,000 K Osram/Radium lamp and almost 100 percent higher than that of the 10,000 K Coralife lamp. - Sanjay My SPS growth and colours are good!
  3. I guess in a FOWLR tank, they serve to make your rocks nice and purple instead of shades of brown and they also prevent other forms of algae from growing on the rock surfaces to some extent.
  4. OMG!!! That's cute!!!!! Well done!! You have made full use of your reservist time rather than eating and sleeping!!
  5. The mods and I will have to decide shortly whether to allow this thread to continue or not on the basis that the act of washing dirty laundry in public may lead to the public being dragged into this matter between these two companies. So far I have not heard from Aquapharm defending themselves yet and we really do not have their side of the story, be it true or false, and that is for them to explain. If there is a need to seek legal recourse, then perhaps that route would be best. Proof will have to be provided, evidence gathered and a conclusion from the relevant authorities will bring closure to the matter. I would suggest that certain individuals from the 3 camps avoid posting any more aggressive & inflammatory remarks that will guarantee a hostile atmosphere in SRC. I can see it brewing already. Peace, AT
  6. Eggcrate holes may be too large to block slim fishes. Use slit-type overflow teeth.
  7. Didn't realize there was a thread here. Vincent's my friend, I called him when he got stranded there... he told me everything was fine actually. Not so today, his boat is still there... but it should be released next week. He lost a lot of money.
  8. Well, if they are crushed to bits INSIDE the tank, then possibly you have contamination. But if its done in a pail OUTSIDE the tank with the saltwater discarded later and the scrapping (not crushing) is done carefully, you won't get this risk.
  9. yeah i think it would. Alternatively, if you taking the rock out of the water, why don't you just scrap them off instead of sacrificing the microlife on the LR when u freshwater dip it?
  10. If you have problems dealing with nitrates, you have to go to the source. 1. Overfeeding 2. Overstocking Reduce these immediately. You can go into quick solutions: 1. AZ-NO3 (very effective at quick lowerings of NO3). 2. Regular water changes until 100% of the water is changed out over time. Or you should plan for long term control measures: 1. Setup an effective NNR (natural system system) such a DSB or plenum. Pros: Very effective. Low maintenance. Cheap (cost of sand) Cons: takes time to kick in, takes up vertical space in tank (6"), may become a nutrient sink over years 2. Setup a mechanical denitrator system Pros: can be effective when tuned right. Results are quicker than DSB. Cons: high maintenance. Expensive equipment. Hard to tune. Do a search in SRC... we have years of good info shared by reefers here. Keywords: DSB, nitrates, NNR, plenum.
  11. I don't think the fishes will eat the eggs as they are poisonous. My suggestion is that unless you want to see loads of tiny slugs coming out and there's a lack of specific foods for them, you'll should remove them now as there is little hope for them to survive in our reef tanks. Possible bioload hazard too!
  12. AZ-NO3 is effective but has to used in conjunction with a skimmer. What do u intend to put inside your FR?
  13. Hmmm... another food for thought...(or is it thought for food? ) so at the end of the day, when we all tune our skimmers to get the best bubble size and intensity, would the 'maximum' airflow be all that essential to know?
  14. Welcome to SRC, Singapore's biggest & most happening marine hobby club!!!!
  15. Too much air too fast and you'll have an instantly empty skimmer with no water inside!
  16. I like to throw something in for further thought... Would it be cheaper & effective to just simply get an air pump/air compressor to inject in 'more' air ie. turbocharging?
  17. How many people can have a 3m high skimmer?
  18. Hmmm.... so it seems. I only concentrated on the venturi part where air and water is mixed. But again because different skimmers have different heights, it's really quite variable, isn't it? A 3m tall skimmer will draw air differently from a 1m tall one. And a 1m tall skimmer may draw in a lot more air if run on an MX-100 right?
