Expert advise needed! cyanrina flew off!!
Achilles Tang replied to RAV-65's topic in General Reefkeeping_
No coral would detach itself from its skeleton and expect to resume normal existence! Yikes! Actually, this is the first time I heard of it! Your coral must be in really bad stress to do so! Did it happen instantaneously or over time? -
The choice of the colour of the bulb should not be confused with visual aesthetics but should be tied in with the characteristics of the bulb in terms of the PAR, wattage and colour spectrum. But simply, the lower k bulbs have higher PAR than the higher k bulbs, are usually much cheaper but at the expense of being yellow and hence uglier to the human eye... but corals & clams love them more in terms as they are pretty similar to the Sun's rays that reach them after penetrating a few feet of water, which changes light properties. The higher k bulbs are visually more pleasant but are usually dimmer and therefore necessitate going up in terms of wattage to give enough PAR. I used a mixture of 4 x 400w of 6500k and 20k... and they pack both punch and looks... my SPS corals retain very strong colours and growth under them.

Hear! Hear!! Superdude speaks truely!! It's important to conduct oneself well in public... and in cyberspace. Singapore's a small place.... everyone knows everyone and you'll bump into people at the least expected moment and place. PLUS... it makes the Moderating Team's job a LOT easier... and we will come across as a nice bunch of people who give virtual pats on the backs rather than a hammer-yielding, machine-gun toting, finger chopping, toe-smashing, tongue-cutting Judge Dredds of this virtual community!

I LIKE to REMIND everyone again that basic civility is expected from ALL members in SRC. Be polite and everything will be fine and dandy. And that goes for PMs as well. The Admin

FW: Dont eat fish at this moment
Achilles Tang replied to pegasus1010's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Are humans that toxic? Fishes do not die enmass unless there is some kind of chemical spill or massive localized pollution or there is Red Tide poisoning/oxygen deprivation effect. I think those fishes in the photos died because they got thrown up on the beach! -

We are all grownups here. Live and let live. Petty quarrels lead to nothing productive. -
What Starting Soft Corals Should I get?

Pls be civil with one another, thank you. Ciaolong is based in Australia now. Probably its cold enough to warrant the use of a heater. There is no misunderstanding. -

DA may be 17 but he exhibits better maturity than some adults here in SRC!! Stay true to yourself, bro! -
Actually, if your CR has no probe attachment direct into the chamber... it doesn't matter! Measuring the PH of the water inside the chamber and what's coming out of the effluent drip IS THE SAME!!!

help... where is my cycle process now
Achilles Tang replied to ciaolong's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hmm, how long have you been cycling your tank? Ammonia should be undetectable once you are at the end of the cycle... but u still have some readings... either the bacteria count is still inadequate or there is something still dying in your tank... are your LR uncured? Algae will grow whenever there is nutrients available. In your case, it could be either phosphates or nitrates. -
