There is need for biological filtration in a marine tank. There will not be enough surfaces for bacteria to grow on in just an empty glass tank and even some dead coral skeletons may not provide a good enough environment for suitable bacteria. These bacteria play a very important part in processing nutrients like ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Such pollutants will always build up and in no time, your tangs and angels (which are very sensitive fishes) will suffer. I suggest you start with hardier fishes like groupers if you want to maintain a glass tank with no biological filtration. Counting on just a good skimmer is possible but it does not deal with nitrates over time. Perhaps if coupled with regular water changes of sizeable quantity, then a FO tank without liverock is possible. Liverock is the basic component of all reef tanks.... barebottom or with sandbed. They serve multiple purposes. Try not to go without, esp for a beginner! Good luck! AT

Yes, you will get less PAR from a 14k bulb. Light loving corals may be affected.

Algae cycles are part and parcel of a reef tank. They will naturally die out because they will not thrive in a balanced and well maintained reef tank. But if the balance tilts into their favour, and they bloom, then you have to have better nutrient control/export or biological controls in place eg. snails & other herbivores to counter them. Some algae are worth cultivating as they are good food sources eg. turf algae but the bad ones like bryopsis, green hair algae can be real ugly and a pain to get rid off. As the rest here have suggested... watch the nutrient buildup and cut it off.

I would say that the directors of the past Batman movies did not capture the essence of the Dark Knight as well as this movie. Batman Begins is also not as campy as the previous ones. Two thumbs up... the people I was with also had good comments... its worth the price of admission.

I attended the movie premier tonight.... let's just say this movie is the BEST amongst all the other Batman movies! Go catch it when it opens.... you won't be disappointed! Roidan... you're my hero!
