What's this on my Fire Fish??
Achilles Tang replied to cityofangels's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
There's a parasitic isopod. If you have wrasses in your tank, they are usually eaten. If you have managed to successfully fish out the firefish with it still attached... chances are you can dislodged it. Net the fish and scrap the pod, if it doesn't budge, squirt freshwater on it. -
No need see-saw! Just take leftover sand from our tanks.... draw a circle and invite reefers to play! The first SRC Marbles Competition!!!

Wahahahaha!!! FOOLED YA ALL!!! (Someday it might be real!) So... no buyers for my marbles? I won't trade and certainly won't frag them. Only poor quality marbles are easily fragged! BTW, anyone used to play the game where you put coins in a circle and take turns to smash the most money out? That was really cool... I wish I can play that again... sigh....

Ron Shimek said: Right now, the best guess is that look like small models of the anti-ship mines used in WWII. That's the funny part. -

If I get a splitter, to split into two cable boxes (I have two boxes, one for hall, one for room).... can I watch an SCV channel while recording another SCV channel without affecting the recording? -

If it goes down over a day or two, then it probably just ate a very big meal. -
Iwaki MD-55 sounds alright for you. Resun MD55 is the cheaper alternative - tradeoff is more heat. Red Dragons are EXTREMELY expensive.... and limited in stock locally. These are from Germany.

how much to start your own business?
Achilles Tang replied to saf168's topic in General Reefkeeping_
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. First movers advantage - seize it. Work harder than you have ever worked before- 1000% harder. Prepare to sacrifice a lot of things. -
Just redo it. A hole in the sump or a new sump is little cost compared to the choice of pump and running costs.

Hey check this out!!! Got this off Cnet Singapore. Upgrade to digital cable TV If you don't want to be restricted to recording only the channel you are watching, you will need to upgrade your StarHub cable to a digital service. The digital set-top box comes with a built-in function to switch channels, allowing users to set the recorder to tape programs from different channels automatically. Update: Alternatively, according to Starhub, households with connection A and B options on their cable TV wall socket can upgrade to connection B which will allow them to record on one channel while watching another. A technician will be sent down to change the set-top box. Installation charges may apply. -
Yes, it is a hobby. But some hobbyists do take it TOOO seriously.

I recommend external air-cooled pumps - better head pressure too and cheaper compared to ORs. Look for Iwaki or Resun (cheaper China versions). I think the OR pumps are overpriced and poorly supported from my experience. I have gone thru 2 OR pumps and they failed on me after a very short time. That is my personal experience.

Magnet holders are the best.... you can adjust the whole Stream unit ANYWHERE!!! There is no fixed depth now (of course its limited by the length of the power cable).

what is written and what i was told

I heard the fish was a small barramundi or 'Kim Bak Law'! Gosh.... -
I agree... its a financially challenging hobby. One where Murphy's Law pays special attention to. It can be a fragile ecosystem that a power trip or inadequate equipment or inappropriate setup may cause its demise. A fully backed-up marine system with redundancy measures is not cheap. I have noted that parasitic episodes have been on the rise globally. It is the cause of endless personal frustration where there is a lack of natural biological controls. Having tank crashes or coral wipeouts due to plagues of parasites are more demoralizing because it happens right before your eyes and not easily detected as they grow to critical mass. I don't have the space to setup a quarantine facility for corals (seperate lights, skimmers, chiller, water circulation, calcium reactors etc) and I think most reefers don't either. I don't honestly know if I will be in the hobby a decade from now.... can you? IMO, this hobby may have more financial pressures than others... and touch wood, when my priorities change, something must be sacrificed.... "goodbye darling... heee heee.... "
