Add vitamins and zoecon to nori so its moist before feeding to your fishes. It will fatten up and colour your tang up in no time. It could be lacking in enough nutrients.

Most pumps have bigger intake diameters to allow for blockages not majorly affecting flow and causing cavitation. Any reducing of pipe/hose diameters is just going to cause more backpressure on the whole pumping system > not so efficient. The chiller's inlet and outlet should come with a recommended hose/pipe size... suggest you go with that.

sky107line, The UV/bacteria part is bad/poor information, probably picked up from some LFS who don't understand how UV works. 'Cleaner' water does not exist in the upper part of the water column, in fact probably containing more protein! Anyway, I think the point you're trying to say is that light is strongest nearer the source and for a clam, very important for their energy source since there is little live plankton in a tank for them to filter feed from.

Yes, new sand should be washed. Do a search on #1 sand, there's an old post with pix showing the shocking stuff that can be found during a wash! Sand from an established tank should never be washed in tap water.

Clown tangs are notorious for poor survivability. Try getting them small, so they will unlearn their habits by watching other fishes eat prepared foods. You should have introduced nori bits, all tangs will go for them.

I have a styrofoam box full of chaeto algae for sale! Yup! This box is densely packed and should be enough for 20 people, if you go by the tubs that are sold, its a steal! I'm asking for $60 only! So it can shared by a few people interested to do a bulk purchase, I don't really care... as long as its sold to one seller only to simplify matters! I just pruned half of this out of my tank... Just to let you guys know, I've not turned on my skimmer for about 8 months already... just using my chaeto as natural nitrate-reducing filtration! This is my 3rd large scale pruning.... lol! First one to PM me today and make arrangements to collect today, 18 December, evening... gets it!

seriously, buy a good quality liverock and you have all the pods you want if you keep them in a tank with no fish/shrimp to prey on them!

Porcupine boxfishes are known to blow crabs, mantis shrimps out of holes to eat them. Small octopuses are good too. However, getting these out would be the next problem.

Water changes that are of the right PH & salinity & water temperature shouldn't shock lifestock. The other parameters are not so critical like calcium or mg levels. A reduction of dissolved nutrients like NO2 or NO3 is like a breath of fresh air to your tank inhabitants in fact!

IMO, it won't cause a thing because the nutrient levels in a matured tank would be only able to sustain a certain population of different bacteria types, which have reached a stable plateau of regeneration & sustainability.

Seed your tank with a good quality LR. The microlife including the copepods will eventually migrate to colonise your dead rocks. The challenge is to maintain good water quality so that you can calcareous algae growing instead of hair algae.

Yup its carrying eggs. But its almost impossible for a hobbyist with a home setup to culture shrimp larvae until adulthood. Too much work involved and intense dedication. Don't bother... many have tried.... I know I did... its just too much work... and success rate is almost nil.

Is the stomach sunken or bloated? Have you been overfeeding the lionfish? They are known to get gastro-intestinal problems easily when overfed.
