I think your understanding of how filtration works is all wrong. 1. If you have ceramic rings in your canister... you are welcoming bacteria colonization in it. 2. Using tapwater to wash your ceramic rings will KILL all the bacteria that has colonized them. 3. If you don't want bacteria to colonise your ceramic rings in your canister, why have it in the first place? 4. If you are afraid of NO3 more than NO2... you are worrying for nothing. NO2 is more toxic than NO3... do you have enough biological media to support nitrifying bacteria in the first place? Do you know its possible to have low NO3 but have high NO2? You need all the right bacteria in place to process the above. You cannot have an imbalance. What are you using your canister for then? Mechanical filtration alone?

I have been hearing good things about Rowaphos and wonder how it compares to the Seachem Phosphate remover... and other brands. Any idea folks?

You need to get protective glass that screens out excessive UV A & B which DE bulbs definitely need... without which... you will find all your corals bleaching.... ask Robe.. he did it once a long long time ago... and within 20 mins... his acros started to RTN....

Hi there... welcome to the Singapore Reef Club. I have my opinions and you may want to consider them: Canisters are more trouble than they are worth for long term maintenance and limited in their capacity for filtration. ie. forget to turn on the canister after maintenance/feeding overnight and all the established bacteria will have died off. Worse still... turn it back on.. and you will flush all the new ammonia into your tank. ie. your tank will suffer. If you can find a way to use a properly constructed sump/refugium setup... it wil be much more effective and convenient as a filter system and equipment storage. Stocking-wise, it's what you like vs your setup limitations eg. size of tank, filtration system, equipment etc.

Yeah I know what you mean... my arse is telling me my current tank is too small too... I hide my reeftecs behind rocks. I like my tank to have less equipment showing... that is why I even had my overflow on the outside...

That's what I hear. I may end up going with pulse start MV ballasts for my 250 or 400 watt DIY radiums. IMO, I think the 4 streams for a tank your size is an overkill... are you intending to upgrade to a bigger tank soon?

Hi everyone, I need to upgrade my CO2 cylinder... still using my old JBL FW CO2 unit for my kalkreactor. Plan to use it instead for CO2 injection into my phyto cultures to increase density. Anyway, I need to shop for a cheap and good CO2 cylinder. Possibly need to get a good needle valve/solenoid combo as I only need 10 bubbles a minute as my Korallin Kalkreactor uses aspirating-venturi for max efficiency. I don't need too big a cylinder...maybe one that is about 50cm tall. Any good lobangs or price ranges... pls shout! Thanks! AT
