  1. Damsels and clownfishes are of the same evil spawn.... bad-tempered, territorial, aggressive type! The older they get, the uglier they become, both in form and in temperament. You seldom see advanced aquarists keeping clownfishes, esp. tomato or maroons, much less any kind of damsels... Frankly, you can put damsels with anything bigger than themselves... but once they get bigger... watch out! Even your fingers will not be spared. Prepare to see your corals or rocks being carried or pushed aside. Prepare for painful nips once your hands and arms are inside the tank. Speaking from experience... and the anecdotal stories of many reefers.... trust us... I believed one of our senior reefers finally speared a mean old damsel he has been trying to catch for years... He was so happy.
  2. Here's the same spot approximately 1 month ago on 14 Aug 03. (It was scrapped recently to maintain my black acrylic background... today... I gave up!)
  3. Here's what my 1 month's worth of coralline algae growth is like. Photo as of today 11 Sept 03.
  4. Here's what it was on 14 Aug 03. (it was scrapped cleanly about 2 weeks before to keep the black acrylic background clean). Well... let's just say... I gave up.
  5. Here's what a month worth of coralline algae is like.
  6. Dispar... use 's next time to denote 'ownership' ie. Uncle Tang is very different from Uncle's Tang. Proper grammar usage will get you somewhere... school, business etc..
  7. It's sun coral, not sunflower. ps - you should feed your sun coral a bit more. hint.
  8. Your livestock will get salinity shock... and succumb to stress. If your water levels can evaporate to such depth to simulate the tides.
  9. Here's my baby Powder Blue Tang! Acquired him in March from Coral Farm, now slightly bigger and fatter! Spends the entire day grazing and eats nori and brine/mysis shrimp. I think the key to keeping PBT well is to get them small and put them in a stress free environment and once settled and grazing, will be able to overcome ich better. So far, my PBT and my adult chocolate tang get along extreme well together! I've shown mine, let's see your PBTs!
  10. To simulate the 'fresh air after the rain', you can introduce a bit of ozone and grass scent....
  11. That's probably quite good too! But it has to go on a 15 day cycle... of intensity changes.
  12. Pornstar.... how many stitches did you get or how many metres were you forced to swim at top speed away?
  13. I suggest to all hobbyist to do a search on Reef Central... on this brand of salt and see what the results are for many reefers who switched to it and switched back to whatever they were using before... You may be very surprised!
  14. It's a water quality issue. Too much dissolved organics, phosphates etc. Get rid of these and your cyano will go away. Either do regular water changes, reduce overfeeding/overstocking, or usage of enough GAC and phosphate removers. Or upgrade your skimmer.
  15. Alvy! I was just going to post the exact same request! Liverock... you got a goldmine on your hands if you can do this! I definitely want one with this feature! AT
  16. oh bwilly, i only have a 1.25 titanium to give away... but too bad... you are only looking for a 1/2h...
  17. Coralline algae is the correct spelling... or your searches won't show anything. Anyway.... coralline algae should be given good water quality or they may bleach and die off. They won't 'drop' off as they are encrusting organisms and will be part of the LR (unless you break them off). Give them an environment with good water flow, high calcium levels, consistent KH and PH and they will grow back.
  18. Reminder... this is the kopi tiam... not THOSE kind of forums. Ahem.
  19. Blue Ring octopuses should be banned from sale. All it takes it one silly kid to buy one and fall over dead after being bitten before AVA bans them. Please please please try to educate as much newbies as you can about the dangers of Blue Ring Octopuses if you see them interested in them.
  20. This thread too. Actually, there are a lot of threads on lighting. Use the search function... keyword 'lighting', 'colour temp' '6500k' etc.
