Flamescallops are filter feeders, they don't eat pods. Who told you that? -

No prob! SRC's supposed to give fellow reefers a helping hand and a lot of reefers here have accumulated a lot of surfing hours in knowledge gathering... we'll be happy to share & help out anytime! -
Please read the Guidelines regarding posting in the Product Reviews forum. IT IS NOT A PLACE TO MAKE ENQUIRIES ABOUT EQUIPMENT (That is what the marine equipment forum is for).... BUT FOR REEFERS TO POST PRODUCT REVIEWS! Thank you for your co-operation! AT

Here's a link to helpful information on hydroids and other strange stuff that appears in our reef tanks from time to time. Hydroids here. -

Its hydroids. Don't worry, they will disappear over time. They appear once in a while, probably as hitchhikers. -
The best macroalgae is still chaetomorpha sp. Some of us find it hard to acquire or to sustain due to something they require. I have a sponge-like ball of macroalgae that floats on the surface like a green ping pong that grows twice its diameter in a month. Can't ID it yet.

Need help on califlower coral
Achilles Tang replied to garan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
If I am not wrong, they need good quality water with very very low nitrates as well as all the stated requirements. The long term prospects of such corals even in other reefers tank are still rather bleak. -
ER for my Green Anemone
Achilles Tang replied to joachimsim's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Frankly, IMO, anemones should be better left in the sea as most reeftanks are deathtraps for them/newbie reefers don't provide good lighting for them/they are not exactly reefsafe due to their mobile stinging nature. Please don't buy livestock until you know exactly what's gonna be in store for you in terms of such incidents. -
Yeah rite! It attacked you! I got pricked doing a nite dive, that's when they really come out in droves.... trying to take the photo of this cuttlefish as seen in this Sipadan Dive thread. I put my hand down without looking and got what could be described as an electric shock combined with touching molten metal. Like you, I am part sea urchin now... lol!

Need help on califlower coral
Achilles Tang replied to garan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Good man. Please remember 'Responsible Reefing' means being able to say no to beautiful marine livestock if you are not able to provide ideal conditions for them, and the only way to know that is to first educate yourself. Everything is possible in reefing but it comes with a very high price. -
Handling marine invertebrates and corals that inflict stings - just don't let them touch the thinner more sensitive skin like the wrist or the inner part of your arm. Or the webbing between your fingers. The palm with its calloused thicker skin will provide better protection. However, speaking from experience, the spines of a sea urchin will even penetrate gloves and give you a truly unforgettable experience. The thought of it still shrivels me up.

Need help on califlower coral
Achilles Tang replied to garan's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
They can be found at any position in the wild. It's better to hang them upside down in reeftanks so they don't fall over and get damaged by water movements or substrate surfaces. I don't see them deflated and lying down in the wild... they are always full and polyps extended. -
Just be mindful of what you say online. If the court comes after you and you can't prove beyond a doubt that you are right... then its your lookout... Of course, personal opinions and personal points of view... are another thing altogether... so are places that are vaguely described. We have certain guidelines here in SRC, newcomers please be aware of them. AT
