  1. Nah... sorry folks! No tank viewing for the time being. We'll keep that for our X'mas Party.... hehehe!
  2. Sera test kits seem to give the most inaccurate measurements from the many reports here in SRC. Do a search! I recommend Salifert test kits.
  3. Short of calling it a commercial posting and having to stop you from doing it... You're lucky I consider scuba-diving as a fringe activity/natural offshoot of our reefing experience! If you're talking something product related to our hobby... ah then... it's a diff story! I do strongly encourage reefers to take up scuba-diving to appreciate the sea. AT
  4. Hmmm.... I haven't gone for that kind of 'training' for a long long time already! Not young any more! Also... I rather not flush money down the toilet but spent it on my first loves....
  5. Will be getting my suit tailored... Was just trying out the new BARE range.
  6. You're the DIY guru! You figure it out! Nah... if I do that, I can't use my MX-70 to run as my main returns as well.... It's killing two birds at one time now!
  7. Looks like a very shallow tank! Even your chromises look BIG! The water volume seems smaller than the usual sized-tank... just watch your ammonia and nitrite levels.... for a new tank, your filtration system is barely ready to cope with such stocking levels. 2 weeks is short. Even though you used sand from the sea, the bacteria does need time to repopulate as I am sure there will be some dieoffs. Other than that... your corals seem to be opening up... but remember, watch the water parameters closely.
  8. hmmm.... good question. Usually not. Unless endemic to our immediate area, fishes shouldn't be released into the sea. I'll like to open this up for debate!
  9. Thank goodness we live in the tropical seas... and most of the marine fish species that are found in our LFS can be found here. Unless you are releasing an Achilles Tang! What kind of tang, may I ask? They are usually found in areas where the water is clean. Singapore's water isn't exactly tops.
  10. Can you move some of your livestock out temporarily for a few weeks at least? If you keep them there, the nitrites will kill them in no time. Your filtration system needs to catch up with the bioload... and as Prof Morgan says... maturation of new tanks' filtration system does takes time... so stock slowly. It's a common newbie mistake... Don't worry!
  11. How, Alvy, should I mod the Alvyfoamer 648 to be double-beckett driven?
  12. To go indepth... yes... a CA reactor also provides these. Iodine not so... you have to supplement seperately. Ammonia? What has that got to do with a reactor? It should be dealt with by your filtration system. A cheap CA reactor/poorly designed one/improperly tuned one may actually reduce PH in the tank as the CO2 that drives the reactor causes very low PH to dissolve the CA media. This low PH makes its way out to the main tank and lowers the overall PH level. That is why some reefers use a PH monitor to shut off a CA reactor when PH drops too low or they use a kalkreactor to counter the low PH.
  13. Why not just one 400ws saki... oh wait... too much yellow. Even 10ks need some blue. You wanna run just 20k? 2.5 by 2.5.... realistically... you must a very good reflector or you will dark zones. My 3ft width is welled covered by 2 Spiderlight Reflectors. Just one reflector... hmmm.... unless you have your pendant high. Just my 2 cents.
  14. Welcome to the Brotherhood!!! The next beer will be on us... down your snorkel of course!
  15. I like position 6 the best... he looks so stretched out!
  16. Hey... you guys going for overskimmed tanks izzit? Joe... you are going into a small tank and you want a 3-beckett driven skimmer.... ARE YOU BONKERS???
  17. Yes you can. If you are getting enough calcium.
  18. Yes, you can supplement a calcium reactor with kalkwasser dosing.
  19. Frankly... Joe... YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!! "Man! What a fantabulous acro colony!! What amazing colours!! I just wish I had the space." "Sorry, I can't accept this kind gift of a nice pink with baby blue tips with purple polyps acro colony... really I can't. If I had a bigger tank... yeah, maybe I would.... " "Frags? I'm sorry, I can't give you frags... my tank would look half-empty if I gave you a frag!"
  20. I think I sold mine very very cheap, considering the high resale value of Koralline reactors. I just think that since my Korallin Distributor friend overseas got it really cheap for me... I should not 'kertok' any buyer coz of greed. Just wanna benefit the next reefer... So... 'you who got it from me'.... lucky you!
