  1. Pls don't keep acros until you are able to provide stable parameters for them. They are easy to keep once you have everything in place... as they can be rather exacting and fussy and fragile at the same time. Keeping acros is a lot more expensive than keeping LPS corals.
  2. I didn't want to do the bucket method coz of the effort and time wasted. Just opened the sand bags and poured it all out into my tank. Water in and then I did so much stirring that my hands really got exfoliated well! Just use the pump and hose to pump in clean water and pump out dirty water. Repeat until debris is removed (via filter wool basket) and water is clean.
  3. Next week I will be in Trang, diving! Clear clean waters... Hantu... errrrr......
  4. I self-medicate, I open up my credit card statements and the deficit amount there usually helps relieve the symptoms. It's a war that I am sure of winning... slowly but surely! *I just need to get my controllable tunze stream set first*
  5. Hmmm... an Isaac Assimov fan, are you?
  6. That statement may not be entirely untrue. If there is heavy rainfall, the immediate area around land may have a slightly decreased salinity. Depending on the tides and the movement of water around, this should affect the normalization of salinity levels. All I know is that I hate to have rain just before a dive because the water visibility will get affected! To me, the diff between NSW and saltmix water is that saltmix is usually much cleaner and has higher calcium, PH and alk levels but may contain higher than normal levels of heavy metals than NSW. NSW from off our shores is usually dirty, polluted, very lacking in calcium and alk, and PH may not be very high either. Parasites or chemicals is something you can't control. With many of our shores fringed by parks or golf courses, where fertilizer is used, there may be very high phosphate levels too. I won't take the risk of using NSW but there are some reefers who still do it for years without worry. It's much cheaper too. But the weight and transportation is no joke too.
  7. I think he got the SPS bug. He's converting... muhahahahaa... another one bites the dust! ACRO TANK: "GIMME ALL YOUR MONEY!!!"
  8. Advisable for FO tanks... pls add that! I had months of nightmares trying to fish out my old green wrasse a few years ago. Lucifer went back to hell.
  9. She keeps the economy, specifically the ornamental fish sector, going!!! You go, girl!!! The country NEEDS you!
  10. Compulsive Local Fish Shop Visiting Disorder. Left out the 'V'! CLFSVD!
  11. This is the only pix I have. Just envision this filter wool in a coriander basket and my pump outlet going into it. This is what you'll catch at the end of the sandcleaning session. If you really can't visualize this.... I suggest you watch more Looney Tunes cartoon for inspiration, they are extremely innovative in creating things to whack each other... especially that Coyote who hates the Roadrunner! Joking!
  12. Compulsive Buying Disorder encompasses all other livestock and equipment... not just corals! It's only secondary to CLFSD and SRCSD!
  13. Get a coriander basket. Put filter floss in there. Output from your pump placed inside your tank (above sandbed, preferably on a rock or plastic stool) inside this basket to capture floating debris. Sorry, no pix!
  14. No, copepods are pretty hardy. And they can grow pretty fast so even if a few do get shredded by the pumps... enough will be around to repopulate. Don't worry about it.
  15. Yes, if it is an empty new tank... wash it in the tank itself. Just get a pump in there and a basket with filter floss to strain out floating debris. Just don't get sand sucked into the pump and basket.
  16. Need a replacement. Anyone knows where I can get CO2 grade airline tubings? My old one was black in colour and very hard and inflexible. Thanks! AT
  17. Yes, pumping a lot of CO2 compared to the old one... but of course expecting a lot of Calcium and Alkalinity to be output too! Will do product review in a few weeks time... need to dial it in properly first.
  18. Happy Hari Raya to all our Muslim bros! Housewarming/tank viewing party going on?
  19. Yup! 1 metre tall, 8 inch diameter tube with 5mm thick acrylic walls, Eheim 1260 pump on top. It dwarfs my old C1502 by a LARGE measure!!
