DT is live phyto. Just chilled so they are in some form of suspended animation. You can culture your own phyto... it's quite fun to do.. if you have the time and dedication. I stopped coz of my schedule. The next step up the food chain is zooplankton... and live rotifers are what you can culture after phytoplankton. Or high grade zooplankton substitutes like Golden Pearls (which I imported). The next step up is larger zooplankton in larger micron sizes... frozen cyclop-eze, baby brine shrimp etc.

If you want my opinion... for coral food... stick to the real stuff... like phytoplankton... live or frozen is the best. Bottled stuff.... ahem.... if you do a search in RC or SRC... you'll find out why none of the serious reefers will even touch those stuff. 90% water anyone? Let's just say we were all newbies once.... but knowledge is key to greater stuff!

How do you avoid a parasite that stalks you at night when you sleep... latching onto your body to suck the life juices out of you when you don't have hands to pluck them off your back? You need a cuban hoggie buddie system!

Hmmm.... you can try either a six-line wrasse or a cuban hog... they are known to hunt down isopods.

From someone who has started up marine with FL, and upgraded to a hood jammed packed with PLs.... to 150w x 2 to 400w x 4.... trust me when I say.... MHs are the best thing since roti prata and fish curry.... You can keep everything you want with MH.... so if you can... skip all the FLs and PLs and pershaps even T5s... you won't regret the high intensity, glitter lines and colours of MH. I wasted so much money on bulbs that lose intensity within a few months, overheating with PLs so much so that the bulbs will blacken due to heat, the caps can melt, the glass shield can crack... all these need replacements and they are not that cheap in the medium and long term. Why worry about how much nearer you have to place SPS and clams to the water surface? It may not be very natural in the reef tank to see clams right under the water surface when they look better on the sandbed... and sadly... FL/PL/T5s have their limitations in depth penetration.

Well, technically, I think its possible. I mean, there are bottled trace elements sold, and they must have gotten the mixture right coz you don't see a funny pasty mixture coming out. I don't think Calcium is included in any trace element mix though.

Are the polyps on a round ball like skeleton? If it is, its budding somehow.
