  1. IF you had the 'misfortune' to lay your hands on a sea dragon... you have the ENORMOUS responsibility to care for this very very rare creature which is not usually owned and cared for by private individuals... and only given to educational instituitions for research purposes or to public aquariums. Since you are a newbie to marine... which is totally different from freshwater.... I strongly suggest that you do not attempt to keep this creature, which requires a species only tank and fed with live foods. AT
  2. Its probably be lettuce nidibranch. They will produce a LOT of slime mucous when disturbed!! They will eat up all your turtleweed for sure... I used to wonder why my old turtleweed rock used to keep getting botak!! Up to you really... AT
  3. YT, While your above statement about chillers is generally true...there are differences which even the layman can tell. If not, how can even the layman differentiate the appeal & performance of one design against another? FYI, I was just having a chat with the boss of CF yesterday, and he didnt have good things to say about the (now defunct) EIDOS chillers. It was a design thing. It was badly designed thus creating a lot of problems. (ps - I have no vendetta against the EIDOS creators). Anyway... we can discuss our opinions on different chillers somewhere else and not go because this thread started by Andrew is directly addressed to me. I really hope he has the guts to show up and explain himself because its my reputation he's trying to discredit.
  4. Softies... you don't have to feed them. Most LPS... they don't really need feeding, esp. the Euphylia family....gonios etc. Brains, bubbles... occasional only with meaty food like fish meat or prawn meat, mysis. Sun corals... require regular feedings daily.... high maintenance corals!
  5. What corals? Diff corals have to be fed differently.
  6. ryz... you can't over generalize phytoplankton as having little protein value. They are actually a very good source of fatty acids, protein & carbohydrates. In fact, most zooplankton are devoid of essential nutrients and need to be enriched by having them consume phytoplankton... loading them with 'goodness' so to speak. BBS and rotifers need to be fed with phytoplankton to gut-load them before feeding to corals or baby fry... or they will be eating nothing more than 'potato chips' equivalent of marine food! Some corals just have different sized polyps that capture plankton of different micron sizes.
  7. Will I be pulled over if I have flames coming out of my Toyota Picnic's tailpipes?
  8. Paradise Reef's SPS shipment is in!!! Very nice Walt Smith acros, birdsnest, brown monti with green polyps etc. LPS: Red lobos, maze brains.
  9. Yellow Tang, Precisely!! So which is the better clone? Is my Tunze Stream a clone of my Reeftec (because the Reeftec came out first?)? And the Reeftec is a clone of a boat propeller! I recommend Streams as the better clone then! And I don't own Tunze either! (How I wish!!) This argument on which chillers are better could never end and therefore should be based on common sense and personal experiences and opinions as well other user's input & feedback. Better still if there are professional two cents added in! You're a marine engineer and so's Dr Chill who is an engineer in a big commercial air-conditioning company which cools nuclear submarines (oops! Did I say too much?). I base my recommendations on my limited experience using Titanium chillers and Teco chillers and getting feedback from users who have tried EIDOS, Hailea, Resun and the many other 'clones' & 'clones of clones' chillers! In this Andrew's friend's case... I didn't even SAY that Pacific Coo's chillers were bad!! *shrug*
  10. I would have become one but I failed Primary 6!
  11. Sing along now! "Everybody hates me.... I'm gonna eat some worms.... fat ones, skinny ones... long ones, short ones... I'm gonna eat some worms!"
  12. Hi Andrew. Welcome to SRC. Before you blow off steam... can I ask if you are own Pacific Coo chillers? I think its quite childish to post a thread expressing your disappointment over my personal opinion NOT given to you. Unless you have a vested interest in these chillers. Anyway, I would like to answer you point by point to be clear... and I hope you will be more specific in reply rather than to make such general comments. Yeah... that was my opinion and just about every other friend I know who has seen our sponsor's chillers (Titanium & Reef Relief chillers) and the Pacific Coo chillers has similar views. I bumped into your young caucasian friend as he was looking around another LFS and I casually asked if he was new to the hobby and mentioned that he could get a lot of advice and support from other local reefers in SRC. He did seem a little lost. (He couldn't even ID a scallop and I had to tell him what it was). Bad remarks? Please be specific and state out every word that I have said to your friend. Please don't misquote him. I am very sure that I made no 'bad' remark because I was very vague in my opinion of the PC chiller especially when he kept asking (about 3 times repeatedly) if it was a bad buy? I said I wouldn't know because I have not heard anything about its performance but only that it appears to be a clone of the Ti and RR chillers as mentioned above. I said to him to just be happy with it and not worry so much coz he has paid for it anyway. That much is clear. If you don't believe me, ask him to verify it here. What copyrights? What's the sensitivity here? So many products here are clones of something else... not convinced? Hailea pumps is a clone of Aquamedic Oceanrunner pumps, the resun MD-50 is a clone of the Iwaki MD-50, Euroreef is a clone of H&S... this light is a clone of that light... come on man... get real. Who am I? Why does it matter? I am a person. A reefer. A buyer. Can I not air my own personal opinion to another human being? Why is it your concern such that you have to 'air your disappointment'?? Do you really have a vested interest in the product or somehow that if someone disagreed with your recommendation to your friend, that you feel so hurt and need to lash out? Wow... Dr Chill, our sponsor who owns Titanium and Reef Relief Chillers should come and take a look at this. So if I gave a personal opinion that is negative on a product, I automatically own all the other competing products? And therefore how unethical it is to have a negative opinion! Sue Deon? LOL! Why WOULD I? And if I really wanted to spoil Deon's sale... I would have walked up to the table where your friend and Deon were discussing the purchases and SPOILT everything there and then! I didn't even speak to your friend until I bumped into him at another LFS! I'm sorry man... I am not a dumb robot that sits on the fence. Ask around. I have strong views on things. If a product sucks (which I didn't say PC chillers do, pls get that right)... I will say it sucks. Do a search... on stuff like Marine Snow, Combisan and some brand of powerhead that has this swiveling nozzle... what else... hmmm... hailea chillers... what's that magnetic tube thingy? Please, be reasonable! If not, pls define 'fair and impartial image to his members'? Anyway... technically, your friend wasn't even a member. I like fried rice and you like beef steak. No one's stopping you from going there... friendly folks and nasty people are everywhere... in every reefkeeping forum that I know of. Can I give you an opinion? Reef Central is an excellent place but NOT perfect. There are unreasonable people there too. And that's a fact that I am not shy to say out loud. There are also unreasonable people here in SRC! Where are you gonna go to find people who always agree with you? Now a question to ask you back, what kind of person are YOU? Never mind. You don't have to answer this. Anyway... what do you mean 'unprofessional' with reference to me? So I'm supposed to be a professional 'what?'... duh? And duh... your friend kept asking me a few times if what he bought was okie!! He didn't seem to show much confidence in what he bought based on YOUR recommendations? Perhaps he did not do any homework or talked with enough people for feedback? Anyway.... SORRY to come between YOU and YOUR FRIEND... sorry I made you LOOK bad... but seriously... how was I to know? Wait! Don't go! I need you to answer me! Have a nice day... and do visit SRC... for the many good folks here who spend a lot of time here teaching and sharing with other folks who genuinely need help. And not just on account of me! LOL! Conrad aka AT
  13. ERmm.... I don't think i will be home from 2 to 5pm... but there will be an open house for cookie tasting... courtesy of barracuda's gf at 8pm... you can come at 8pm instead? AT
  14. Potentially yes... just ensure that water flow is fast enough to provide oxygen for the topmost layer. A lot of detritus will settle as the water flow in a overflow chamber with durso is pretty slow-moving at the bottom. You can solve that problem by throwing in a few hermits or bristleworms to clear the detritus or siphon it out.
  15. Here's a pix of my modified filterfloss holderplate made with undergravel plate. This pix shows it before I inserted my durso standpipes in. It's been cut to size and extended from end to end so it can be wedged between the standpipes and glass ledge directly under my overflow teeth. Water flows past the overflow teeth and into the filter floss. The filter floss helps to catch any loose food particles eg. nori strips etc that may make it down into my sump and my pumps.
  16. Yes... the skimmer may export the medication out.. the GAC may aborb it and UV may render it useless...
  17. ? This review is more than a YEAR old!!
  18. Tsk tsk! A hot temper gets you nowhere. You don't have to tear apart the overflow compartment in anger. A cool head and asking other reefers here in SRC for advice is the better solution. Too bad. I would have told you to just use a glass piece to seal up the bottom slot or even a CD could work. There are a few reefers who have bought such tanks.
  19. You intend to put this medication in your reef tank? Or you have a treatment tank?
  20. Check out the creator of the Durso standpipes site for more info here.
