  1. I mean... HOW many riots are there in SRC.... never mind... don't answer that! LOL!!
  2. Do you know how much sand to use?
  3. DIY Cement LR is going to be extremely heavy compared to much more lighter and more porous limestone liverock. The curing time to reduce the high PH of cement will also take a very long time. How much time and $ do you expect to save?
  4. Use superglue gel.. let the first layer on the LR dry... then apply another layer before you lay the velcro part on it.
  5. Big pumps with high water outputs can raise your tank by 2 - 3C if used inside the water. Most of us who keep SPS have our pumps outside the tank. And we switched to air-cooled pumps instead of water-cooled pumps...
  6. Its probably a bacterial bloom in the water. It should clear in a few days. Slime on LR? Sounds like dieoffs. Is your LR well-cured before placing it in your tank? If not, the die-offs will help add ammonia to your water to kickstart the cycle. Do you have any water movement in your tank?
  7. Water changes. Growing of macroalgae. Grow cyano to absorb it.
  8. Off topic guys... discuss your DIY LR in a new thread please.
  9. Now, that's a weird post if I ever saw one! Show you my chair? hmmm... does a stool count?
  10. Reef Acronyms - check here if you don't know what we're talking about.
  11. OH yeah... hazkha... can PLEASE be more descriptive in your topic title???? ie. Tubeworm, what to feed it?
  12. Males will usually grow very long streamers at the end of their tails when they reach maturity... but for sure... it may not happen in the typical reef tank because they need a LOT of swimming space ie. 8ft tank and above to grow enough to exhibit the streamers.
  13. When people talk about a DSB crash... it refers to the accumulation of heavy metals in the substrate that will affect the water enough to kill livestock. Its synonymous with 'old tank syndrome'... usually happens around the 7 year mark onwards... give or take a few. Frankly, it also means you have to change out your liverock every few years too! People are still studying this syndrome... there are people with DSBs for more than 15 years and no such problems. What I mean by 'crash' with reference to my above post is that if you allow a DSB to 'sit still' too long... oxygen levels will drop enough to affect the aerobic layer of the DSB and cause the bacteria to dieoff... causing your whole DSB to 'die' and stink.... due to increased levels of hydrogen sulfide which should only occur deep inside the DSB.
  14. If you want to see it grow... feed it phytoplankton... its a filter feeder.
  15. If you can't hide the PVC pipes by propping up LR against them... you can buy cloth-based velcro and superglue one side to the sides of your PVC tubes... and superglue the other side on to thin flat light LR and attach the two parts together... they'll stay together... even vertically. Don't get velcro with double-sided tape!
  16. If you have a properly setup DSB in your main tank... there is frankly no need for a tiny DSB in a typical tiny sump tank. You're better off using that space to increase water volume.... rather than sacrifice it for a tiny DSB that probably wouldn't do much. It works if you do like the angmos do... their sump tanks are usually as big as their main tanks.... using rubbermaid tubs!!
  17. I think a reason why I feel its good to feed your SPS corals zooplankton is because they are sensitive corals and a lot of their energy is used up for growth and should something happen to the coral affecting its health due to fighting off STN/RTN or to regenerate quickly to recover from physical damage... any help in supplementing their energy levels would be critical in living or dying. Light & calcium alone may be enough to sustain SPS, but we should be looking for an edge over sustainability! Of course, feeding SPS will also push your system to the edge if you have borderline equipment or a weak filtration system. Do invest in an oversized skimmer... I don't think there is such things as overskimming when it comes to SPS! AT
  18. I GOT SPS TODAY I got sps today. It be my special special day. I put up all my pix Despite all them reefers on SRC- ignorant pigs I know they will be sorry and didn't mean the things they said. Coz I be going to get me sps today. I got sps today. It wasn't pay day or any other special day. Last night, them reefers threaten t0 throw me into a wall and promise to choke me. It seemed like a nightmare, wantin' to drown me in the sea. I couldn't believe it was real, brother. I woke up this morning emotionally hurt all over. I will make them sorry, coz I be getting more SPS today. I got SPS today, and it wasn't my birthday or any other special day. Last night, they threatened to beat me up again. And it was much worse than all the other promised pain. If I listen to them, what will I do? I wanna keep my sps, no way I be giving them away. But I know they will be sorry, once I get my sps pix up today. I got sps today. Today was a very special day. I got me tank fully stocked up. Who said my tank is F@^ked up? Natural sunlight over a 2ft tank who say you cant go sps without breakin' the bank? DIY fans willdo the job just no chiller what the fuss? tap water mixed with tablesalt hey the r@inbow dude says it will workout. Overloaded? Man get real, 50 baby damsels for $1 its a steal Now now dont go into a fright Aint sps supposed to be all white?
  19. Riot!! THAT WAS A BLAST!!! Spidey... you're on a roll too!
  20. Yup! Riot's right on the nail. A sump is supposed to carry extra water volume and a place to dump your equipment like pumps, probes, drip your calcium reactor/kalk reactor effluents and chemical filtration. A canister is really restricted.. and you can't increase pump sizes too.... to increase water circulation in your tank.
  21. Wow! Roidan! Your thread is soooo long! So how are your purple queen athias doing? Any casualties yet?
