  1. Hi Mike, ... around $10? Joe_p, well... I do intend to pass it around to fellow flatworm victims... once the food supply runs out in my tank. Which I don't know when because I don't know many survivors there are in my tank!
  2. I think you can click on the link, save as... and view the downloaded file in a viewer that you blow up to full screen for a better THX experience... you can almost hear the flatworm scream in terror... a silent scream.
  3. I did a massive nuclear attack on my red planaria (flatworms) with Salifert Flatworm Exit a few weeks ago but a few survived the nuclear fallout and is multiplying again. I must have killed tens of thousands but I'll tell that story another time. Marinelife came in a few Chelidonura varians, which are known to eat flatworms and I got myself there in a hurry today after Henry opened shop after a long break! My Chelidonura varians is now in my tank and happily chomping down on flatworms!! I have a video of it vacuuming down flatworms.... and it's WAY COOL!!!!! Flatworm sufferers who have tried chemical treatments but still have survivors who have become resistant to further treatments can try a biological control means with Chelidonura varians! Take a look!! In this video, you can see two big flatworms moving downwards, the one on the left is on the glass and away from the nudibranch. The one on the right and on the rock becomes the first victim. Notice how the nudibranch suddenly smells the flatworm, rears up its head to the left and comes down hard on it... I can see the mouth vacuuming in the flatworm in a split second...! The nudibranch then moves up slightly and eats a smaller flatworm to his right that tried to flee away! It moves up again and whacks a tiny ones further up. Makan time!!! Two pratanaria kosong! Fish curry please!
  4. Moving to Marine Equipment forum.
  5. You're better off with acrylic if you want a tank that size, Ah Siao.
  6. Whoever told you that needs to learn how Calcium Reactors work. You inject CO2 into a CR to lower PH. Once PH drops to a level enough to dissolve calcium carbonate media, your CR is working. You need to tune your reactor effluent outflow & your CO2 bubble count so that its not so fast that the CO2 doesn't have a chance to dissolve the media and not too slow that excess CO2 leading to very low PH may turn your media to mush.
  7. It has been noted that blue light tends to be more favourable for coralline algae growth, barring all other factors like good water parameters and circulation.
  8. I think your fish is too big for your tank size or rather your tank size is too small for that kind of fish. You should consider exchanging it for a smaller specimen that should last you a few months before it will outgrow your tank... so to keep the fish, you should upgrade your tank! Seriously... Tangs are comfortable with larger & longer for swimming space, lots of LR for grazing. Your tank's too small.
  9. I think 12mm glass is not a problem if you use very high grade silicon that I am using (Dow Corning 795), with full eurobracing and centrebrace. The glass bottom is tempered for strength and so is my back glass wall (as I have cut holes in it). The starphire glass is supposedly to be slightly weaker than float glass as the iron content is very low (therefore the clarity). It's also 12mm if I am not wrong. A 15mm tank poorly designed & siliconed tank will fail faster than a 12mm that is well made. You just have to trust your tank maker.
  10. Not all seahares/nudibranchs/sea slugs eat sponges. Their diet varies from algae to sponges to corals and goodness knows what else. That's why they don't last very long in captivity. Sponges will grow very fast if they get good water circulation coupled with lots of food ie. phytoplankton. The blue sponges we commonly see are mildly photosynthetic, they can be placed in lighted areas but the danger with most tanks is that nutrient levels are high and cyano may grow on the sponge surfaces and kill it.
  11. Made of 80% protein? I'll be eating sponges as a Weight Gainer supplement! Which LFF told you that! Sponges don't take proteins from the water... if it does, we will all be growing sponges in our sumps and throwing away our skimmers to keep our water clean. Sponges feed on phytoplankton. The only dosing you should do for the growth of sponges in your tank is with phytoplankton. AT
  12. Nope. Air bubbles trapped inside.. that is the main cause of sponge death. Always try to pack them underwater. And place them in your tank inside the bag so there's no exposure to air. Underwater... try squeezing the sponge lightly or tapping them to dislodge trapped air bubbles. AT
  13. LOL... FLs will work. They have for many many years! Just like bicycles.
  14. T5 is the coolest of the lot. The other T%, depending on wattage. PL is the hottest. I have not tested how hot VHO is. Maybe Tanzy can give some feedback.
  15. Are people still using FL lights? kidding.
  16. WOW!!!!!! I'm gonna try this same thing with cockroaches!
  17. Ah... a miscommunication then? You should have said... an overflow box... instead of 'ibox'. Everyone reading it would have thought you meant Ian's ibox. Or are you saying that you have built your own version of Microsoft's Ibox?
  18. Hmmm.... in light of what's been discussed... IMHO... I personally find 'flying aeroplane' extremely disgusting as it reflects a bad character flaw... COURTESY. In today's world, its extremely easy to reach out and communicate with someone... SMS, a phone call, a PM, an email etc. What's so hard to call someone who's waiting for you and say that you can't make it, or wish to postpone, or to tell him that he can release the item for sale because he changed his mind? I don't advise naming someone's real name here. If it's just the nickname, it would be less humiliating. Some people hide behind nicknames, but eventually, people will know who is who, unless the fella is a real recluse. SG is so small, everyone will know someone who knows someone who knows you, if they don't know you already. Seriously, as a local community of reefers, word will spread very quickly via gossip or info exchange. I hope everyone can learn to keep their nose clean. Just be a considerate human being. I don't mind if you want to bring up to other people's attention that a reefer here is fond of 'flying aeroplane' but NOT till you yourself TRY all means and ways to get this fella to EXPLAIN himself to you why he did what he did. After a considerable amount of time has passed and he still didn't respond to you via sms, phone calls, pm or email... then by all means, catch his attention via a public posting. Again, I must state, that SRC is not responsible for any consequences arising from this course of action. You have to judge yourself if you have given ample opportunity for the other fella to explain himself to you. I therefore urge all disgruntled reefers to resolve this out of sight as far as possible and let fellow SRC reefers know only as a last resort (more like a warning to be careful with dealings with that said person). If your public posting to call out this fella results in an all out flame war... remember my policy about flaming too... don't become a victim of your own actions. I will NOT be merciful. We are a small community, let's try to get along well with each other. My 2 cents, AT
  19. People quit for different reasons. Good reasons are usually unhappy ones... relocation, a divorce, a new career, a new baby, moving house, lost of job... Trivial reasons will make people wonder why they even start in the first place. What's a setback, or 2 or 3 or even 5? What's a hiccup, or difficulty in overcoming a problem? What's the problem in retrying? Is there not enough motivation and love for the hobby to evaluate and DO BETTER? It's not how well you started, its how well you end. The trend-followers and dedicated are worlds apart. The dedicated and hardcore are also worlds apart. Which category do you belong to? AT
  20. I tried the Adjustable Force Fins (swopped it with another fella during a dive) and truly regretted it. If you have bird legs like me, it's TORTURE!!!! You have to kick really hard, but when you do, you do get a lot of power from it. It's also negatively buoyant... I had the fin popped off my feet when I was at the surface. My dive guide had to go down and retrieve it. Apparently, there are some kicking styles that you can't use with it. I am using the Scubapro Twin Jets... very comfortable and easy on the legs.
  21. Support SRC's sponsors! Come on, it's not very nice to tell everyone that you took Ian's I-box design to a fabricator to duplicate it... no shame! *tsk tsk*!
  22. If we go on a liveaboard, I will insist in no other place than the Anambas!!! Morgan! Where art thou?
