You can use more and it will rise to 8.3.

You track evaporation in the sump and not the main tank. Your return pump should be sending a consistent amount of water to your main tank from a limited amount of water (your sump) and it overflows back at the same rate to the sump. Therefore, any drop in water levels would be best seen in the sump. (If you don't believe me, you can scoop out a pail of water from your main tank and see the water level drop in your sump, NOT your main tank). An inconsistent water level in your sump could be a result of blockage of your overflow chamber/standpipes due to trapped air bubbles/'gurgling' affecting the consistency of waterflow going back into the sump tank. Or it could be the skimmer.

Marine Tank Competition...
Achilles Tang replied to marinebetta's topic in SRC Contest and prizes section
Erhmm.... I don't know how they intend to do this because if its dealing with livestock on the spot and contestants are supposed to just aquascape a tank to be judged... errhhmm, I'm not entirely comfortable with that. Every marine tank grows different and the beauty lies in how the corals and other inhabitants respond to the caregiver's skill and dedication. If the contest is going to be run like... every contestant is given an empty tank, a bucket of sand, a box of rocks and a box of corals and fishes... and to aquascape... even the size, shape and amount of LRs given and the quality/size/shape of corals & sponges given will differ between contestants and that will affect the visual outcome... how do you judge fairly? How are the water conditions going to be safe and stable for corals? We all know that coral display tanks look very sorry at the end of exhibitions and dieoffs happen in such display tanks. If its a photo contest of our own tanks... well, that's a whole different story then! -
Well, don't throw it away. Dry it in the sun and pass it to your mum to cook for dinner. Provided its the black donkey dung cuke!

Achilles Tang replied to terryansimon's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I agree that its difficult to have a long distance relationship with your reef tank... ask Tanzy and he'll sob on your shoulder. Just ask yourself if you can ever educate your mum to learn about their needs and how to deal with emergencies and whether she has the passion to make sure that all your reef tank inhabitants are 100% ok and prospering for the 3 years you are gone. Chances are.... she'll throw in the towel. Sorry dude... it seems you have a difficult choice and we can't really answer that for you. -

Achilles Tang replied to Guinness's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
Moving out of this forum. Unless of course, you're asking specifically for SPS corals? -
If your talking about neat sand pellets, that's what they process after they eat. If its something they spew out as white sticky threads... that's their guts and its bad news. AT

Probably 23 to 24 is still acceptable. 25 is best.
-
21C?? That's BRRRRRRRRRRRRRR COLD!!!! Not too good to keep a reef tank that cold.

Like to add that there are now 2 units for sale!! Nope, I didn't clone mine. It's just coincidence that another owner of the Alvyfoamer 648 has already upgraded to a dual beckett skimmer (also another big SPS tank w loads of anthias freak! ). He's asking me to help him dispose of it. Same price. Same terms. PM me pls.... serious enquiries only.

My Alvyfoamer 648 is for sale. I am upgrading to a dual beckett model with a larger & taller body... for the simple reason that my SPS tank needs pristine water quality even as I feed my growing school of anthias several times a day with high nutrient bearing food and I have a 1 metre of 8" diameter cast acrylic tube sitting around in my house doing nothing! This skimmer is capable of producing skimmate of the sludge variety! Check out pix here! It stands about 4 ft in height with a 6 inch diameter reactor body. Owners of big tanks and those who are keeping anthias should really consider this skimmer. Iwaki pump, hoses & PVC piping to the sump not included. Price asking for is S$700. Not negotiable. Self collect. I'll throw in the Beckett 1408 nozzle as part of the deal. Serious enquiries only. Pls PM me. AT

This thread is in the wrong forum!! This is the Pasar Malam forum!! Moving this to the weekly LFS report forum. -
The onus is on the buyer to be educated enough to know what he's buying and if its suitable for his tank/his husbandry skills. If a customer bought a Blue Ring Octopus when the shop assistants (esp. if they are not well educated) say its just an ordinary octopus... and something bad happens... who is to blame? I say the customer. We all know to take LFS advice with a pinch of salt. Mistakes like this shouldn't happen but it could be an honest mistake. So it all boils down to the customer. A smart customer will be able to ID a BRO immediately and inform the LFS of the mistake and to take immediate caution when handling. Ignorance and cheating are two different worlds apart. Do be careful of your choice of words in future....

With myopia of that degree... your wife has no choice but to use contact lens and even that is no guarantee that she'll be able to see well underwater. I dive with contact lenses. People who are rich can go for Lazik treatments!

Title changed already.

If its coral sand ie. calcium carbonate-based.... do the vinegar test. If it bubbles and dissolves.... it's coral sand. If it doesn't... it's probably mineral-based sand like quartz or silica.

Tick tock! You better contact me fast or I'll delete this thread.
