  1. Also, remember my tip? The clear acrylic downtubes will get encrusted with coralline algae/nuisance algae soon if you don't shield it from light... it will save you a lot of maintenance work later on and also prevent a loss of skimmer efficiency. Its hard to find a flat shallow tray long enough to soak your downtubes in acid to dissolve coralline algae as it is not easily broken down into at least two shorter pieces. But its a chio looking skimmer... one day must come over and admire!
  2. I strongly suggest turning the skimmer around so that the reaction chamber faces you. Its not only for aesthetic purposes but also practical reasons... you need to remove the collection cup for cleaning! My 2 cents. AT
  3. I will gladly sacrifice $30 to run my skimmer and skip a nite at the pub!
  4. WoonMing is not representing Reefez anymore. Someone else is.
  5. This product was tested at a lab with other anti-phosphate removers... too bad no one is willing to spend some money to share the results with the rest of us.
  6. You ought to try putting your hands in a tub of blue neon gobies. Once they are trained to recognise you as the one to feed them, they'll swarm all over your hands! AT
  7. Someone combustible is going to get all excited at these pictures!
  8. Congrats to Woon Ming on his new company... Welcome to the battlefield... hahaha!!!
  9. WL, Welcome to the Beckett Club! AT
  10. Bubbles look fine but there isn't much density to the foam. What pump are you using for it? AT
  11. With a weaker pump, you have to adjust the air intake accordingly. Too much air and you'll not have foam of the quality needed to 'climb' up the riser tube. Could be also the new pump could have enough oil on it to affect the skimmer, give it a week to 'break in'. My 2 cents, AT
  12. I think in that case, 24 hours of skimmate will be like the current 36's hours worth! I'll be cleaning my collection cup every 3 days! LOL!!!

  14. Just like to add that this Reef Maniac skimmer Dual-Beckett Commercial Series DK1-1055-DB is currently running only on ONE beckett driven by an Iwaki MX-70. It has a 10 inch diameter reaction chamber and a 7 inch diameter riser tube. It stands at 4.5ft/1.4m tall! On its stand above sump level, its taller than me at 1.92m! If driven correctly to spec, I will need another pressure-rated pump eg. another MX-70 or a MD-55 to drive the other beckett but that would mean I have to tee-off the MX-70 to drive one beckett and act as the main return pump and connect up the MD-55 to drive the other beckett.... I think when I do that I will probably skim the fishes out of my tank as well... I'm amazed at the the speed of foam production and how dirty it can get within 2 days... I'm not taking any photos of the 3rd day's skimmate production because it's too dirty to even see the difference in my collection cup. Maybe I'll take a photo of the tissue wipe of 7 day's worth of skimmate! This Reef Maniac skimmer is very solidly built with extra acrylic braces to make it leak proof. It is made of black and clear acrylic and looks very professional. The holes in the flanges are very well cut. The acrylic edges, however, are not sanded & rounded off so the edges can be quite sharp. Hopefully, future models will have this feature so handling of the unit will be easier on the hands for clumsy people like me! A lot of details went into the design of this skimmer and In terms of maintenance, I can vouch that the Reef Maniac skimmer is a lot easier to break apart for cleaning compared to quite a few beckett skimmers out there. This monster of a skimmer would be excellent for commercial tanks or large home aquarias... with excellent foam production, a high turnover of water... promised to meet the needs of anyone who can overlook the high cost of electrical consumption vs the speed and power of beckett skimming!! Note: beckett skimmers do produce a loud hissing sound due to the air intake (which can be muffled) so if your family members demand zero noise, this skimmer isn't for you! These days, I can spend quite a few minutes a day just LOOKING at amazement at the skimmer and seeing the foam ball rise & rise! AT
  15. Awesome! Does remind me of a scene from "The Day after tomorrow!"
  16. I guess pictures tell a thousand words... so this is my shortest review yet! Just washed the collection cup clean.
  17. And the answer is.... *cue drumroll*.... It's a Shaw's Cowfish aka Arcana aurita!!!
  18. Oh dear, you just bought one of the hardest to keep fishes in the world. Or rather, one of the most expensive fish to feed!!! I guess it will live for a short while on your Acropora coral till you buy more SPS to feed it as it is an SPS obligate. You have to do more more research next time before you buy a fish. AT
  19. Basically, the sea cuke will help turn over the surface of the sandbed to eat up the bacteria on the detritus & the sand grains. They won't eat cyanobacteria aka slime algae and will in fact avoid going close to them. There shouldn't be any form of algae growing on the sandgrains.
