  1. Very nice landscaping.... creatively done and natural-looking!
  2. Gonna be bringing the wifey on a well-deserved 5D holiday break over the Deepavali/Hari Raya hols ... a proper one this time... all our holidays this year had been diving trips! Anyone knows good places to go for makan? I wanna hunt down the best 'smelly tofu' and dim sums around. Gonna be meeting up some reefer friends there as well... so perhaps they'll be the best guides. Going to Shenzhen too.... not been there yet. Anyone been to that miniature wonders of the world place? I wonder if I can go diving in HK.... oops... And no... I am not going to carry any reef-related stuff back... I already kenna warning by my wife... last trip to HK made her sacrifice her luggage space for my old CR and media!! Anyone going hols over that week too? AT
  3. Hmmm.... I can consider that request. So General Reefkeeping will be broken down into Softies and Stonies?
  4. Dun want to smell your fishy smell here for that one month! Hit the books, boy!!! Good luck for your exams! Money will help your hobbies greatly later in life! Get your certs first!
  5. Overheating is a high risk that we tropical reefers face. You're very lucky you don't use high wattage MHs....
  6. When SpiderOne fulfills his dreams.... Armaggeddon is just around the corner. Everyone dig a hole in the ground and prepare to meet your Maker.
  7. Well, depends on what you keep, what objectives you set, what kind of filtration system you got and what equipment you have. I keep mine very simple. No filter floss, no bioballs, no sandbed compartment. Just a tank for water to enter and for my skimmer and return pumps + chiller pumps to take water from. I use a separate anti-phosphate & GAC reactor... for a newbie, maybe a drip compartment in your sump where you can place filterbags containing GAC & phosphate removers + filter wool will work too. If you have problems dealing with a high bioload, bioballs will help in converting toxic ammonia & nitrites to less harmful nitrates... but your nitrates will build if you don't have any kind of export mechanism or NNR system.
  8. You should lighten up a bit bro... somethings are not meant to be taken so seriously! I was also told I'll never be good at what I do before.... everyone has to start from somewhere... you got a good specimen, hope it'll inspire you to be a pro reefer! ps - FRAG FRAG FRAG!!!
  9. Its a no brainer guys... there is no such thing as a zero-water change system without compromising the health and well-being of your marine pets. There's also a sucker born every minute.
  10. A fish tank that doesn't need to change water is either lacking in something or has too much of something, none of which is good for the inhabitants. Things accumulate, things get depleted. Cheap system with no water change? Smoke in an aircon room without fresh air circulation and see how well you can live in it for a year. Same theory, simple logic. But if you smoke in a aircon room without fresh air circulation but you have an industrial grade air filtration system with micron filters which are changed out often with super ionizers & air fresheners inside the room and perhaps, just perhaps, life would be bearable. Think about that! My 2 cents, AT
  11. ? Everybody's misunderstanding this.... It's the Battle of the CUTE mutts!!! LOL!!! Hhahahaaa!!
  12. Aha!! Katting!! I've also looked into that...
  13. Booo.... this is a battle between 'skimmer dogs' of TOWERING calibre!! No other pooches may intervene in this contest!
  14. Yeah.... good to be back! Never seen so much preaching in such threads before!! Truly an educational talk you conducted. Hope it cuts through the hearts of those who are conscienceless. The 'guru' in charge still has my deepest respect and regard.... he reminds me of the long bearded kungfu master from Kill Bill Vol 2...! Fierce & skillful, own time own target, but hopefully he won't end up being betrayed like in the movie... grrr... The armies of Mount Doom, led by Harry the Hairless, are marching now against the Tower of Quad Light, protected by the Mutt in the Cup....
  15. I OFFICIALLY CLOWN YOU AS THE MASTER OF ALL CRAZY NUTS!!! Now the battle of Middle Earth will take place... between the two towers of light and darkness!!!
  16. Reminder: I will repeat this again. You are all GROWN UP adults... behave like one when dealing with one another. Basic courtesy, manners, honour are expected to be displayed. Good communication skills are also important... practice it, improve on it. If you have to deal with your friends, colleagues and strangers and not look like a turn-off, certainly don't give your fellow hobbyist any less thought. Be considerate, be noble, be honest, be open, be transparent. There are a few rotten eggs around but some clashes are because of poor communication and EQ skills.... so practice a bit of giving face and giving leeway too. But SPEAK clearly and simply.... and you will not go off the beaten track. And of course, buyers beware.
