  1. Depending on bulbs. The higher K bulbs usually has to be changed out anywhere from 6 mths to 8 - 9 mths. The lower K bulbs can be used anywhere for 1 to 2 years even.
  2. Anthony Calfo meant well when he mentioned those who are always trying to one-up someone else's monster skimmer for the sake of boasting.... In most cases, the bigger the skimmer, the better & more stable your system. A skimmer is a nutrient exporter. A so-called 'water purification' device. The benefits of skimming are obvious. If you're running a full SPS tank, you want to achieve very low nutrient conditions. The smaller your skimmer, the slower accumulating nutrients will leave your system. So either you feed nuisance algae or you let your SPS corals brown up faster due to zooxanthellea overgrowth. How a skimmer is made determines the speed and quality of these effects. You acknowledged that your skimmer is tiny and undersized... are you looking for affirmation that it'll suffice? Sorry dude... there are others things that one can compromise on but certainly not something as critical as a skimmer. Trust me... when something goes bad with the water... your lights or your chiller is not going to save your tank... the skimmer WILL!! My 2 cents. AT
  3. Okie okie.. let's get serious before Rumor censors us! My 2 cents... if we hobbyists can inspire trends by sharing what our tank looks like... it's not a crime nor wrong in any way. It's probably when people start clamouring the LFS to bring them in then there may be an artificial price inflation due to demand overwhelming supply. It's completely natural... anyone remember those who profited greatly from the sale of thermometers during the SARS scare? I think we should only frown on those who intentionally mislead others into buying things that are not really worth its value, like bleached corals. If we hobbyists are so easily influenced to wanting to play catchup with our neighbours like buying the largest aircon chillers or the largest or most expensive branded pumps or skimmers without evaluating why and what for, then that itself is also an indication of either too much money and too little self-control or no resistance to the herd-mentality. This has to be self-evaluated as everyone has their own priorities and budget. Envy is one of the seven deadliest sins and one has to be rational when it comes to this hobby.... its just a hobby after all.
  4. It looks cool but u cant use this in a taxi!
  5. A stressed soapfish may even become susceptible to its own toxins.... I am not sure... but it could be a possible reason. Have you tried a water change with new GAC? They are very hardy fishes...
  6. Look everyone... I have this in my tank now!! Isn't she beautiful? She's very rare too!
  7. Really?? Damn! Okie... I QUIT too!! Seriously, that article does reveal a lot of truth and it applies not only in the US but also here in SG... it's probably worse here I think... Our KS mentality can be quite alarming.... But Roidan... does that quad-beckett thingy... ahem... hee hee.... Waahahahaahaha!!!!
  8. Spider.... got off on the wrong side of the bunk bro? You want to sign extra?
  9. I have 2 x 400w Blueline E-ballast from the USA for sale. Asking price $220 each. Original Price: about S$280 excluding freight... the eballasts are heavy and the freight was very expensive from the US. Can't remember the price but its in excess of total S$3xx. It has not been used since purchased 2nd hand from a reefer who has given up the hobby more than a year ago. Believe these Blueline E-ballasts are about 1 year old. My own Blueline E-ballasts have been running for more than 2 years and are still running well. Blueline e-ballasts have very good reviews . Info: Works with all bulbs, including HQI, with no flicker or hum; produces low heat while using less energy; 12ft lamp cables with disconnects Pls PM me if interested. AT
  10. Here comes the answer!! It's a Sea Hare!! That's a closeup of the breathing hole of this creature... Congrats to those who got it right!
  11. You can get Zeovit stuff locally from Ocean Planet.
  12. Fuel has given good info... FME, the tigertail cuke grows fast... very long... not thick but can extend to incredible lengths.... amazing creatures! My black sea cuke has never climbed my glass before... it has always stayed on the sandbed and only rarely climbs LR.
  13. Deepblue, I show you mine and you show me yours.
  14. I strongly recommend the XM10k bulb... it's got very high PAR... comparable to the Iwasaki 6500k bulb... and its much whiter!!! Get yours from our sponsors - Reef Depot... he carries them!! I'm very pleased with this bulb... the growth under this corals are excellent!
  15. Zeovit method is certainly interesting but I personally know of one local Zeovit user who faced problems even though he is extremely conservative by underdosing. Some corals are very nice looking but the rest are not and he has lost a number of specimens. He is also very concerned with the initial lab rest results of some of the zeovit solutions that may not be as per what it advertises.
