  1. This is the place where SRC volunteers can put their names down for helping out in the respective areas identified for the smooth running of our involvement at Aquarama 2005. Please put down your names first. Afterwhich a committee of section heads will be selected to be ICs of the different tasks/areas of work. Remember, this is strictly voluntary but a personal commitment once made, would be expected to fulfilled so as not to jeopardize the rest of your team. LOGISTICS I need people to help me with logistics in getting the hardware, posters & printed materials assembled, delivered and set up for our booth AND the teardown logistics. TRANSPORTION/MANUAL WORK - people transportation - equipment and material transportation - assembling & setup (1st trade day) - teardown & packup (last public day) BOOTH MANNING - daily for trade days (opening up/closing) - daily for public days (opening/closing) (put your names here first. A daily schedule will be setup to cater for maximum staff strength even on rotational basis throughout the public days (Sat and Sun) to give out flyers, talk to people, relieve each other for breaks, makan times, R&R walkarounds). MATERIAL PREPARATION I need people to help me with the collation, design and preparation work for the multimedia and printed materials. 1. Multimedia presentations (MULTIMEDIA SKILLS NEEDED) - Gallery showcase of our member's tanks to inspire newcomers. - powerpoint presentation on basic reefkeeping eg. cycling period - powerpoint presentation on the ocean environment and what we can do as individuals to preserve it. 2. 4. Hi everyone, As you all know, the Singapore Reef Club (SRC) has been invited back to support this event and we will be taking up a booth at the venue to promote our club and the marine reefkeeping hobby. We have also been invited back to give a 45mins public seminar on the last day of the event and upon discussion with some SRC mods, have selected the following subjects: Reefkeeping Myths Dispelled plus A Short Presentation On Seahorses. (a few SRC reefers will be called upon to contribute to the seminar panel) It will be addressed to potential newcomers to the marine hobby and amateurs, to set them off on the right foot on their responsibilities as a caretaker of their adopted marine pets. The seminar will address myths, mindsets and give a realistic view about progressing in this hobby. The SRC booth will introduce the reefkeeping hobby to potential reefkeepers, provide basic advice and tips to newcomers and promote ourselves as the local club for all Singaporean marine aquarists to provide mutual support and encouragement, to help people advance in their skills and as a base for knowledge sharing. In light of these objectives, I will be planning the logistics and materials preparation for our participation in Aquarama 2005 and require the combined co-operation and goodwill of our SRC members in helping the club achieve its goals for this event. Please step up and volunteer yourselves as SRC should not be a one-man show but a combination of the unity, brotherhood and strength in passion that you guys have shown since SRC was launched in Sept 2002! I will detail down the plans and will assemble a committee to help run this event together! Please vocalise your opinions and offer your help early as time is short and we need to mobilise a lot of things asap! We've done a lot as Singapore's reefing community, especially in the Saving Nemo movie aftermath, let's unite again for this event! Let's make our involvement in Aquarama 05 a BIG SUCCESS again!!! Thanking you all in advance, From the Admin and Moderators of Singapore Reef Club

  6. If you have a small tank, you will most certainly need as much filtration as possible, be it mechanical or natural. There are pros and cons of each and you will have to live with them. The canister filter can be removed if you are willing to boster your husbandry methods some other way. The internal circulation powerhead only moves water but does not aid in filtration. You have to adjust your powerhead accordingly if it becomes stressful for your livestock ie. fish getting stuck against the wall! Corals flying around the tank! AT
  7. It's possible but you have to position them such they can maximum light to thrive.
  8. Yeah, the beckett is an air injection monster and because of its high velocity, an inadequate body width or height may cause some bubbles to swirl downwards and escape from the gate valve return. The only way to solve it is to adjust the inlet pipe higher in the body column such that very little bubbles get swirled downwards and out of the skimmer.
  9. Escape from where? The beckett housing??
  10. Quite a number of websites not accessible today if you're on Pacnet or Starhub. I think some Singtel users affected also.
  11. It's not a crime. But you should be wary about keeping the BRO (Blue Ring Octopus) as they are highly venomous. They come in occasionally. Octopi are excellent escape artistes, you need to learn their habits and needs before setting up a tank for them.
  12. Shoelevy, These are external pumps, meant to be used OUTSIDE water only! Don't ever get these in contact with water.... poof!!!!

  14. Check this and this out!!! It's a big one!! Probably a Richter 8 or 9!!!
  15. My wavebox water level goes left to right. Everytime there is a strong tremor, it goes front to back!!
  16. I just experienced a strong tremor!! My tank water level went up and down about 6cm as my building swayed!! Woah!!!!
  17. Nice! I wanna go diving again soon!
  18. Bloody hell!!! I quit watching after 3 mins... there's 16 mins of this to watch??!! BLOODY CRUEL!!! It's absolutely SICK!!!! It's one thing to take the pelt of a dead animal... but to skin a creature that's still alive???!!!! They should burn in hell or be reincarnated back as the same animal and be treated the same way! Looking at the tears and pain of these animals make me feel like beating the man to a pulp. Grrrr.....
  19. If you want good form factor and PDA function... o2xdaII Mini is good! Just get a blue tooth handsfree... the inbuilt speaker is a joke!
  20. Yes, these are points to ponder. Racism rears its ugly head everywhere. In Malaysia, I have Chinese friends who get the short end of the stick too from the Malays. Try living in Australia and you can get the occasional driveby where the whites will shout at Asians to go home. The blacks get marginalized in USA. The whites now live in fear in South Africa. The local Chinese look down on Mainland Chinese. Come on guys... these things will ALWAYS happen. The point to ponder would be... are we part of the problem or are we part of the solution? Respecting one another is the bottomline. Anyway... I'm glad that Chinese guy got taught a good lesson.
  21. Congratulations, Roidan!! No chance to see your tank in person!! Boooooo!! Where's the Bat cave and the Bat Sub in the tank?
  22. ... and the Moderator stepped in and waved a finger... "watch it... keep it clean pls..."
  23. 8.5 is on the high end but not entirely unusual or harmful. Daily PH swings from 7.9 to 8.5 are quite normal for my tank. Optimally, it stays stable at 8.3 throughout but its not possible due to the use of a CA reactor and normal photosynthetic activities during the day cycle.
