Hi All, I always wanted to know where are the nearest marine fish shops near my location, so I made a google map of the shops based on information provided here. The map is free to share. Sticky if you want. =) http://tinyurl.com/jlfsykb2 points

Made an overflow box with common materials for my 50L nano tank so that filter maintenance will be easy and allow me have more filtration choices - 2 longish food containers (raided from my kitchen) - 9mm aquarium tubings for overflow - 12mm plastic tube cut to short length as holders to hold the overflow tubings better and neatly (optional) - a small bulkhead - coarse sponge to reduce splash and noise - small fish tank as sump with acrylic plates cut and siliconed to make the baffles - a couple of clamps and support to hold the overflow boxes The idea is of course from youtube, just that I try to make do with what is available at home and avoid PVC (do not like the PVC look and wanted something transparent/visble) Like a regular overflow box, it will work when power restored (eg doing tank maintenance), no need for priming again. Max flow rate depends on the surface area of holes you drilled into the box for overflow and the tubing size (or number of tubes you use). Am using a Ehiem compact 1000 pumping the return via a chiller to the tank. Working well except my sump is a little on the small side. When power cut the sump is almost full. A bigger tank is in the works but overflow box will still be reused2 points

I have a similar sized tank and was using a quiet fan when I had plants it in. Works well but high evaporative loss of about 1.0-1.3L daily. Running a peltier 24x7 for a 50L will need min 4 to 6 chips. Its then drawing approx 420W 24x7 - don't make sense for the performance and inadequate if intending to have corals. Rather stick to a quiet fan for a FO tank if possible. Took a risk on a group buy in Carousell for a Made in China 1/10HP chiller (significantly cheaper than comparable Hailea). Its performance is great so far. Very pleased with it though reliability yet to be to proven of course. Shall see. Evaporative loss is now much lower, about 0.25L1 point

1 Yellow tang is fine, blue tang gets way too large and powder blue are just not suitable for beginners as they are ich magnets.1 point

I built a chiller unit for my quarantine system. (Attached are a few photos). Now my experience is that they can reduce the temp about 2 - 3 degrees on a small nano tank but struggle to go any lower. This maybe due to the quality of components, I used, or my DIY skills or even the design. They aren't that cheap to build but are fun fairly projects. Good luck. PM me if you need any help.
