I've been using reef crystal from day 1 of my current setup for the simple reasons of it being cheaper. However, for the duration of using the 6 tubs, I find it really difficult to get my Mg levels up.... They were constantly dwelling at 1200+. I had to dose 250-300g MgCl each time I do a water change. There after, I changed to red sea coral pro, I have good parameters and good coralline algae growth which I didn't have over the past 6 months I was using reef crystal.
Now, my concerns are that I find significant difference between the dissolution rate. Reef crystal dissolves completely within an hour of mixing and is good to go. On the other hand, coral pro seems to be still cloudy 2 hours after mixing and the cloudiness continues for the next couple of hours after water change in contrary to reef crystal.
I will probably give DD a try next.
P/s : I don't really trust the tables which tabulate the different parameters of different salt. I've tested all the salts I used and they differ greatly from batch to batch. I've gotten Mg as low as 1100 and have not exceeded 1240 throughout the different tubs of reef crystal salt. And for the skeptics, I send my fresh mix sample to the medical lab to test for Mg when I persistently had Mg problems... Just need to test the accuracy of salifert test kit, which I must say, is pretty accurate
