Hi All,

Been MIA for about 1yr++ now as I downgraded my home and finally settling down and restarting my reef tank once more.

Here's my design layout... Not the best tank to dream about, but guess it is the best I can do for my little 3rm flat.

As space is a major constrain... and I have lots of huge equipment from old 4footer...

I had very little choice but to put my chiller in the cabinet :(

Here's the specs:

Tank Size: 3.5x2.5x2ft

Sump Size: 2.5x2x2ft

(Everything will be in-sump + a tiny 750x140x200 Refugium)

Return Pump: Iwaki MD40 (Reused from old tank)

RM Protein Skimmer: 3ft + Iwaki MD55 (Reused from old tank)

RM FR x 2: 1 for Carbon + 1 for Phosphate (Reused from old tank)

Chiller: 1/3 JBJ Artica + Eheim 1060 (Reused from old tank)

Lighting: Reused from old tank

A) 1x Giga Aqualight 900 (2x 150W MH + 2x 55W PL)

B) 1x Acadia Slimline (1x150W MH + 2x 55W PL)

C) 3x T5 24W Lighting

Wavemakers: 2x 6100 Tunze + Multi controller (Reused from old tank)

Both will be hooked up to my APC UPS1500R which gives about 6-8HRS run time (Reused from old tank)

At the moment no CR cos cannot fit in my old 2ft x 8" RM CR... so probably will need to work out for a smaller unit.

Cabinet Size: 1200x630x2400H

Matching laminate with my house fittings.

Here are the pix of my new tank... Will probably fill it up this weekend after the piping and leak test.

Nice setup bro ... scapings gonna kill ur back though haha. BB or DSB?

Going BB cos I've done overflow and underflow... but now considering maybe have a 2inch sand bed cos the height of the tank.

My back is killing already... :pinch: I calculated wrongly as I wanted 1000 internal height (because my PS is 3ft) for the cabinet and end up with a 1.2M height... didn't consider the base and thickness of wood and support beams etc... there's an excess of 10cm after I placed my PS which would have help if I made it 900mm height.

Good thing my tank height is only 2ft. So I can still reach the bottom, problem is the width cos it is 2.5ft and I may not be able to reach the overflow compartment corner.

Get a pair of scaping tongs it'll help lots. The larger sized ones that have a mechanical pincer wit rubber tips. And since scaping is gonna be painful so try to do it right the first time. One thing about scaping with BB, some form of securing the rocks must be used. I am running BB with coarse sand scattered around the rocks just to make it look like theres a sandbed ... but only about 1cm of it. 6 mths on theres no sign of diatoms or deadspots.

Nice setup! Looks kinda cosy too... just don't slam the door on your fishes, ya? And you have a nice floor to watch out for. Heh... ^_^

Thanks for the advise

Btw, the cosy setup is a work of Henry from Marin* Lif*. Took most of his advise and he has been helpful and very accommodating to all my whims and fancies... good price too :P

Especially in setting up my super heavy UPS (20KG)

Pumps abit high on wattage but nice equipment layout though ... what skimmer is that? Custom beckett?

Haha.. ya my old setup for my previous 4ft was using Iwaki MX70 :pinch: so now downgraded to Iwaki MD55 (I still prefer the MX70 cos it is surprisingly quieter but draws 1.5 times more electricity...)

I'm using 6inch x 3ft RM Beckett Skimmer... downgraded from my previous 8inch RM Beckett as well.

Just cycling my tank and started running my 750x150x360 (40.5 Litres) Refugium. 40lbs of Mircacle Mud +20lbs of Live Sand from Carbsea to kick start.

welcome back bro, knew u be back for sure with that corner beside ur door,

Thx :P Now need to get a CR... damn no space...

I'm thinking Deltec FP601 or FP501 or Aqua Medic CR1000

I'm probably having a mix LPS & SPS tank... haven't decided. But the reactor will need to have both Calcium and Magnesium media.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Hey Bro Fuzz

Welcome back. :yeah:

l'm the one who collected yr sand & cheato when you decomm.

Rockscape wise, l really like yr previous tank arrangement where one side of the tank had LR tt stacked all the way up. Very nice.

Still remember yr overgrown US zoos on the floorbed....like a sea of flowers :ooh:

Ok.. will see how I can improve on the rockscape lol just that the back wall is sadly the wall to my room which my wifey would not want to tear down to see the tank from the bedroom... In fact it was one of Henry's suggestions to have a 3 viewing angle tank.

For the Zoos and corals... sadly most died in the transition phase... just 1 advise to all who are moving or decomming... SELL your livestocks!!! They will most like not survive the journey. :pinch:

Also, if you got to take a long break... sell your pumps etc.. I got 1 tunze 6100 and a maxijet 1200 that did not function after the long break...

Here's a brief update:

Just installed the lighting. I've also relocated my chiller :P

My old lighting consist of:

3 x 150W MH

(2x BLV & 1x 14K)

4x 55W PL

(2x 10K & 2x 6.5K)

Think I will probably try to get some T5... using Blue Special and Blue Plus.... 18K

Will see how my chiller handles... currently seems much better... about 1HR to cool 1 degree with full lights on at it's new location outside of the tank...
