Item description: Taam Rio Nano Protein Skimmer

Reference site :

http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem-Search...el-vendor-.html

Does anyone know if this is available in S'pore? I'm hoping to test it out in my little office tank.

Tank size : 14" x 9" x 12"

LS : 2 x maroon clown (about 1" size)

1 x bi-color blenny (1.5")

Currently relying on a small Dolphin hang-on filter & weekly water change.

:thanks:

Hi bro,

Not sure whether its available in Singapore. But seems like its enjoying some decent reviews in RC.

However, I recently saw in Resun SK05 Nano skimmer at Aqua Marin, claimed to use needlewheel impellor. After checking with several foreign forums - seems the review isn't too good.

Thanks Gouldian for the info.

Did some searching on the SK05 & came up with below pic. Looks like some mod is required on its outlet to reduce micro-bubbles in the main tank. Any suggestion?

Hi Bro,

You are fast! I don't think it is meant for usage inside the main tank thus the design does not incorporate bubble dispersing sponge. Having said that, I think a sponge envelope on the outlet may be able to address the problem.

By the way, are you able to see the Resun SK05 video uploaded on youtube?

Yep, saw it, but not much skimmate was shown in the collection cup. Pop-by at Clementi Blk 328 to pick up a unit. Uncle charged me $16 after some bargaining.

:eyebrow:

It does have a bubble dispersing sponge, but practically not effective.

:cry2:

I'm trying to direct it's outlet to my existing hang-on power filter's inlet tube.

Hopefully, this will further dissipate more of those micro-bubbles. My fishes must have thought I've installed a jacuzzi for them!

:yeah:

Meanwhile, I can see bubbles in the reaction chamber while it's running in. Will check for skimmate tomorrow.

ok, below is the result after Resun SK-05 run-in for about 36hrs.

LS contributing to the skimmate are :

2 x maroon clown fish (~1.5")

1 x bi-color blenny (~2")

I've removed the outlet control & the bubble dispersing sponge cause they're blocking my HOB filter inlet.

Result : Chinese tea from a $16 skimmer

Hi bro,

The results seems quite good for a $16 skimmer.

Not sure if it's my luck. The little REsun needlewheel pump that came with the skimmer tends to stop after a couple days of continuous use. I took it apart thinking it might be clogged dirt, but couldn't find much.

Took it back to the shop but uncle claimed he sold all his current stock & couldn't provide me with a replacement. :o

(Actually, I was hopping he might point out to me if its a common problem on this product, or show me some remedy that did not occur to a newbie like me.)

Anyway, I brought it back to office & cleaned it some more, knock it about a few times(thinking something inside might have jammed).

Fixed it back again. Crossed my fingers. IT WORKS! . . . . but just for another few days until it stops again.

I'm beginning to think that I need to find a replacement for this 150l/hr needlewheel pump. But it's not readily available.
