SRC Member SpiderOne Posted September 10, 2003 SRC Member Share Posted September 10, 2003 2-3kg of uncured LR in a 1ft will be bad. make sure u get cured LR's add slowly. not all at 1 go
oshkosh
This is going to be tricky. Make sure you buy cured LRs. Ask the LFS, but some times you may get the wrong info from them. If the LRs are not cured, these will kick off another nitrogen cycle in your tank, and kill your current inhabitants. To be on the safe side, better cure your own LRs. bwilly
cured or uncured also no use. when u transport home, there will be definitely some die off. this will have undesirable effect on your tank bio-system. If not, u can bubble the LR in a pail, after certain days, add it into your tank.
oshkosh
I normally get LR from CFarm...are theirs cured? Don't know. Too be safe, do this; 1. Mix a batch of salt water in a pail. 2. Leave your LRs in the pail for a week or two. 3. Aerate the water. Use a pump and an airstone. 4. Change water if it get very smelly. This way you can confine the nitrogen cycle to the pail. If water doesn't smell, LRs should be OK. Transfer LRs to your tank. Proceed with caution and small amounts. Test your water for ammonia. As for myself, I leave new LRs in my quarantine tank for 2 weeks, before I transfer it to my main tank. Cheers
