 Hey there !

:paiseh: Can anyone help to ID this in the picture ? What is it...a tube anemone or "Apatisia" forgive me for spelling error.

 If harmful, can some experts share the procedure to destroy it without harming other inhabitants inside my tank ?

Thanks to all in advance !

use peppermint shrimp, copper band butterfly if hard to reach LR.

if not take the LR out n apply kalk paste/white vinegar

I took mine out n injected white vinegar into the aptasia.

So far so good , no more appearing , neither did it spead :whistle

I bought 4 peppermint shrimps... they have wiped out every single aiptasia in my tank! ;)

I recently found 3 again recently... one with eggs...! They are really good hiders, active at night. Only the biggest one comes out during the day.

Aiptasia are introduced as hitch hikers in our aquarium. Often small specimens come in inadvertently on live rock or attached to the base of corals.

Why and how are they reproducing so quickly?

Aiptasia will reproduce quickly in some aquariums, while in others show little signs of an increase in population. The exact reason is unknown, but an environment high in nutrients and detritus seem to encourage faster growth. They generally reproduce by pedal laceration. When the aiptasia moves a small piece of the base tissue is left behind. Even a severely damaged piece can regenerate into an entire anemone. For this reason do not try to scrape the anemone off or try to crush it. Instead of killing it you will end up with many more.

Don't waste. Take them and put them into your refugium. I've heard of people using Aptasia refugiums. I trying out now. :P

MAD! You will regret it.

Haha ..

Chris those people whom use Apatisia have special design sump or they call it the " maze sump " as they claim that these pest Apatisia would help in ur filtration.. But should a small little flesh of these pest gets into ur return pump and up into ur main tank !

Hell would break out ..

Better dont try :) haha

Actually I have no aiptasia in my main tank. For whatever reason which I don't know, 5-6 appeared in my sump and I decided to let them be as they are not able to creep into my return pump. Maybe someday if I find any in my main tank, then its time for me to get a camel shrimp or a copperband.

Thanks for concern. :)

I think (marine) therefore I am
