My tank

Hi,

5 x 3 x 1.5 ft.

The only issue I had with it is that it is placed 3 ft above the ground, and I have to use a ladder to place those corals. Worst still, it is only accessible from 1 side of the tank.

This is the picture 6 months after setting up.

suggest all pics to be resized and reposted. They are oversized and in violation of SRC posting rules.

And finally, 9 months later, things start going down hill. Partly because the tank was over crowded and I am fighting a losing battle with No3-

The nice 'cave' in the middle collapsed. My giant clam is dying and some corals die. Most tragicly, I cant seems to prevent the slide into damnation.

Here comes the pic

haha, dx3, that's fast!

anyway, my tank is almost barren now. pending new budget approval from my wife. I will try to restablize the No3-, before rearranging the rocks and hopefully reintroduce some more corals.

Things are a lot more encouraging after I sign up with sgreef. Seeing all these beautiful tanks make me want to work harder. Especially the water change. The whole tank is 800L and I am changing 40-50L every weekend.

I am not sure what else to do. At least for now, corals are not dying anymore but tank looks barren. and my blue tang is dying too.

sian.

bro...

realised that you didn't re-size ur pics....the other thread as well...

the Mods and AT is going to jump if they see this....

re-sizing also makes it easier for us to view the pics that you post...instead of having to scrool here and there.

Only the blue tang is sick

http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...ndpost&p=318258

according to damien, it could be TB or some kind of poisoning.

I think it is a visious cycle. The giant died [found out 4 days later coz went oversea] and nitrate shot up. After water change, did not seems to help. Soon, fish start disappearing and then coral start dying. Now trying hard to keep things healthy.

So now is 4 months after that last picture. My tank is left with only some corals [at least a 3 month old Giant is healthy and looks 'leafty']

The No3- seem stable between 25-50. I think I may want to do another 1/3 water change and clean out my filter box this weekend.

ya. it is 3 ft ++ from the gound and 3 ft height :) the width is a bit squeezy at 1.5ft

that's make it all the more difficult to arrange the corals. Had to balance on my tummy with 1 leg on the ladder.

btw, how do fellow tankie bro makes such a nice landscape ? my snails keep pushing down the corals. I did get some sticky mixture for corals but I am worried about sticking my clams on the LR. how ah ?

Is that big clam a squamosa, derasa or maxima?

I am not sure though I think it is a maxima.

here's another small pic of it while it was alive. It died about 4 months back

I currently have his "brother" who is about 11" and 10.5 kg when I first bought it. [~3 months in tank leow and looks healthy and "leafty"]

The clam u saw in the picture is smaller. It cost 100SGD and weighs about 7KG.

The current one is much nicer.

My equipments are as follow:

a. the Hailea 880 [1 hp] chiller. I am trying to sell tat off. Any takers ?

http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...ndpost&p=317173

b. Ehiem1260 return pump

c. one powerhead to water current

d. 2 x 150w MH with 2 x blue

and of course a 3 feet sump with a 2nd hand AquaMedic skimmer.

I will post the pic of the big giant clam later. I should take another picture of it before I do my massive overhaul, just in case it dies.

You have a tank I could only dream of :) How many fishes you have in there ?

I think even though you stick your clam onto some rocks - they will still move if they do not like the place. The clams are capable of secreting some chemical which will melt the rocks.

That happen to my clam.

Wow, 3ft height tank, i had a 2.5ft height previously and my hands can barely touch the sand, you need to get a diving gear........learnt my lesson, a longer width will be a good choice, anyway, nice tank and happy reefing..... ;)

Ya, I have to wear my goggles sometime. I actually had a 6" sand bed but it is still quite unreachable.

As a result, most of the time is spend on rescuing corals from falling live rocks. It is so damn difficult to scape and now it look hideous

Anyone has a suggestion ? I am now facing no3- problem. I am thinking of doing another 1/3 water change and cleaning out the sump and filter box.

a. Should rescape as well before doing the major overhaul ?

b. Should I just leave the rocks [given that it has nice little mushies and tube and other stuff] on them ?

I still dunno why my No3 keep going up. Should I remove all the LR and clean up the sand bed too ? I am afriad that will remove all my bacteria.

please help!

My squamosa weighed 10.5kg despite its small size man

Wonder how it became so heavy?
