My Blue Tang is sick

Hi,

I have a 5x3x2 ft tank and it contains 1 blue tang, 1 clown fish and 1 green chromis.

They have being leaving in harmony for 1 year plus now.

However, recently, I saw my tang getting thinner and doesn't eat as much. its scales are also 'whitening' [see attached picture]. It seems like white spot [i.e. same illness as plain water fish ?]

Please advise on what to do ? My tank has a few corals and I am fighting a battle with No3- recently. Not winning but not losing any more ground either. Could it be nitrate ? if so, my clown and chromis are still happily swimming and eating well.

Doesn't look like whitespot. Seems like malnutrition.

What have you been feeding your blue tang?

Sypmton: not feeding.

Possible disease: microsporidian infection, TB/wasting disease, vibriosis, poisoning

Thanks, so it is definitely dying. The biggest problem is trying to catch it out from the tank. Is that contagious ? can cure ?

1 big fish + 2 small fishes in a 5 ft tank n u still got nitrate problem?

fishes r quite tolerant to nitrate...

issit stg u did to ur water to stress it?

The tank is 13th month old and so is the tang in my tank [quite a tongue twister ]

I think I overloaded the coral and after a gaint clam died on me in the 9th month [and did not realized after 4 days], my corals and fish starts to die one after another.

had already done 1/3 water change 2 weeks ago and today the no3- is still between 25-50.

I think I will change 1/3 [i.e. 0.333 * 800 L] again this weekend and hopefully try to catch and isolate the blue tang

in ur "battle against nitrate" wat hav u done to ur wateer?

wat did u add exactly? did u overdose?

i dun advise u to add anymore stuffs, if so many of ur corals n fishes die, it probably means some water parameter imbalance already....

u shld hav done an emrgency water change when u realise ur giant clam died, ammonia cld hav costs ur LS...

pls test ur ammonia, nitrite levels, make sure they r at 0

check for any foreign substances in ur water that cld cause ur water imbalance..

wat filter medium u using? brand + type?
