Hose Connectors

Hi Peeps,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this...

Saw this hose connector in the shop at kitchener complex

and was wondering if any body uses this to distribute the

flow of the pump instead of using PVC Tee-Joints and

valves. Just recently changed my piping to use PVCs but

the RIO32HF vibration is driving my family crazy. I have

split the return pipe such that 1 section goes through my

chiller, 1 goes directly to the display tank and 1 for

the SCWD. Too many pipes causes too much vibration.

So was thinking of using mostly hoses.

What do you guys think?

By the way, I think the hoses that fits these are the

16/22 Eheim sized hoses.

There's an extra nozzle that could be attached which I think could

have a different size hose.

I think it's very easy to remove because the base of the thing has a true-union like joint and if the additional nozzle is used then the hose is locked with a threaded ring which I guess would make the whole thing easy to disassemble and return. By the way, the base is inside threaded at 3/4 size, I think my RIO32HF has a threaded outlet with size :erm:

any other opinions? silly or otherwise eh? :D

by the way, the guy says the distribution adaptor is around $20+ while the extra coupling is $4. If it works, then you've got a true union, 4 valves, and several T-joint in one. If it works :erm:

are you using hard piping connection for the Rio? If so, you can minimise the vibration sound by using a short connection of hose between the pump and pipe, and slao use a rubber mat like those anti slip for car dashboard under the pump.

plastic hose fastener can be use if your Rio is inside the sump

The Rio is vibrating due to the back pressure so probably after changing to this new toy, the rio will still vibrate.

You might like to consider changing the rio to something else that don't vibrate instead.

so it's a RIO design issue? :erm: are there any other good pump with approximately the same flow rate which won't vibrate (at least not that much) in the non-rich reefer category :D

I still have one valve connected to a Tee which is closed.

Would releasing some of the pressure back to the sump

improve it?

i used to run my beckett with a rio32hf, with no tee-off. i think can this can be considered as high pressure application.

some vibrations can be heard but only when the cabinet door is open.

was wondering could it be that your pump is defective? have you ever opened up the pump and check the inside and did you assemble properly after that? did you use the suction cups to secure the pump in place to make sure that it is not vibrating against some hard like glass to create the noise.

my md55 also got some noise when i ran it. until i raised the water level in the sump to a few more inches higher. u can try raising the water level in your sump, as that might lighten the suction load on your pump and reduce vibrations.

juz my 2cts :)

the sound does not come from outside the pump as vibrating against anything. the pump itself gives off some low frequency humming sound. i think it's the back pressure thing. i'll probably be going tomorrow to buy some pvc and use a bigger sized pipe. currently using 20mm and end is 16mm :paiseh:
